The SWF link works fine.
Recieved my Lilliput Screen today, i dont think the button design is bad at all. Need to find a good dashboard so i place the screen in it, as i intent to mould it .. going for the OEM look
Does anyone have tips to do this in a descent way, oh and i have a relay board laying around here, wich allows me to control 8 relays via a serial port. anyone any idea's for this, like turning off indoor lighting and stuff

I very much like the idea... Sadly I don't think I can afford it.. I'm adding a shedload of extra instrumentaition to my car, and it would be cool to have a 'super infocenter' that would do graphs of say engine temp, oil temp or injector duty cycle.
I guess the laptop will have to do for the time being
If anyone does want to ad that sort of thing to your in car PC then I may be able to help.

Rich, that was also my idea, using the in car PC to do some data logging at the same time. All I need now is the screen to complete my in car laptop. I was looking at some sort of IO adaptors that have a few analog inputs as well as digital in/outs.
Also got some good security, if anyone breaks in I get a phone call from my car and can then talk to them with my phone!! Just made use of an old Nokia 3210

That would be great richard, i still don´t have an i/o card in my carpc cause i didn´t know wich would be best for my requirements.Well I may be able to reccomend something to use for inputs. I haven't got quite that far, but should have some idea in the next few days.
I'll let you know if it works.
Richard
i thought of measuring boost, lambda, maybe injector duty cycle and
"knock" identification.
the guy who programmed the software i use (cpos) can surely implement the feature of making graphs and some sort of statistics in his software, i just have to ask him nicely
currently i´m working on my skin for the i/o scrren have a look:
The skin looks good, would be great if you could display everything on the screen.
Interested to know how to communicate with the car itself, would be great if you could just turn the boost up by pressing a button.
Software shouldnt be much of a problem

Lots of PICs these days come with a USB or RS232 UART interface (Old mouse/COM1 ports) - most microchips.com PICs will do 10bit analog-digital conversion. <Eg: 16F84> You'd need a way of switching between each sensor for sampling - (say a counter chip) but with a fairly small amount of programming/soldering you could have a feed into a PC from all the sensors the ECU gets a hold of at a pretty accurate resolution! Hurrah!
<<Guess who just sat an exam on PICs and their interfaces>>

Well there is ODB-II but thats only for cars from 95 onwards.480_rocket wrote:I've been trying to find some sort of standard, other people must have done the same to their cars surely? Otherwise some sort of standard should be set, how it connencts to PC, what chip, how many interfaces etc.
So you'll have to make something yourself as i dont think many people have done this to a 480 yet.

Well I'm looking at doing the same thing, but not talking to the ECU to do it. It is possible to get some info from the ECU, but not on the 400 cars unfortunatly.
I am thinking of a standalone unit, that would have it's own temperature sensors, and will interface with the analouge signals from the MAF, Knock sensor, MAP sensor etc.
More on that later, as I haven't got started yet.

Well the first test of my datalogging system went fine.

Picture is too large to post to the thread, so a link instead. (150k jpg)
This is the start point only there are more sensors to add yet, but it's getting there.

Well done, so these are just sensors you added yourself or did you read some info from the ECU. Interesting to follow this but how about using a ADC and get the signals to the pc ?rpruen wrote:Well the first test of my datalogging system went fine.

The system used to do this has A/D inputs, and also digital inputs. It also has two D/A outputs, and 20 digital outputs.
I have used mostly the ECU sensors, but have added some extra ones, mostly extra temperatures. I have also to add some other things like the Lambda probe, and need to do the digital inputs for RPM etc.
When I have it working a littl ebetter then I will post some more details. At the moment it's only a trial.
