Thanks Sylvia. I should be taking it to him early October. He did mention possibly selling his other cars to make way, thats a H '90 turbo he says. I don't know much about it though.dragonflyjewels wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 8:07 pmGood news all round then Edie, at least as far as the debt clearance is concerned. Just wondering what your prospective buyer intends to do with his current one ? Maybe that's earmarked for his grandson as well.
We will be very sorry to lose you but hopefully it won't be too long before you are back in the fold with another 480. M eanwhile if you fancy coming along to meetings to catch up in person, please do. I'm sure you will still be on the forum from time to time.

Well, 130 miles to Ellesmere. I was just pulling in to Shell and a Citroen ZX was behind me. Then a 92 Corolla saloon pulled in. It was very 90s for a short while!
I’ve replaced both of the Volvos with a ‘99 Xantia diesel. The C30 is still for sale. I’ve never had to sell a a newer car before. What a pain. Too much choice so very slow going.
Stayed overnight there then dropped him off with his new owner about 30 minutes away near Wrexham this morning. Went through the 3 years of paperwork I’d collected
He’ll enjoy owning him and showing him off I think. He’s gone to a home where he’ll be enjoyed.
The man said his grandson will probably get him in the future so who knows; This thread could be picked up years to come…..
Over and out.

Re: 1990 Turbo Auto - VOL 480T
Thanks for finding it a good home Edie. Is the Xantia a HDI or does it still have the XUD engine? I've always liked those cars, much more than their successor C5 which is just a bland blob.
Robert.

Re: 1990 Turbo Auto - VOL 480T
It’s the HDi. The older ones (25+) my current insurer wouldn’t insure so it made sense as I’d have been paying out a lot more to sort expensive insurance and paying £83 to cancel my existing insurance, then losing a years no claims on top!
It looks nice, Mauritius Blue, but all the Xantias I’ve ever been in smell of burning plastic. It’s a bit sickening after a while! Perhaps it’s an LHM thing?
Re: 1990 Turbo Auto - VOL 480T
Well Edie your thread has been one of the most active and extensive, and that video buying guide is one of the best pieces of 480 media I have seen, it was really useful, even though I already have one!
Sounds like a Xantia will keep you busy, they are very interesting cars, one of the last wedgy designs. I wish you all the best, though Vauxhall could have predicted the plight of the 480 owner when they coined "Once driven, Forever Smitten" so maybe the Born Identity will catch up with you again.
Best of luck on your adventures

Re: 1990 Turbo Auto - VOL 480T
I work for one of the largest car insurers in the Netherlands, my 480 is insured for less than £50... a year! (There is one catch, I'm limited to 5000 km a year).
The 2 litre HDi without DPF is capable of mileages well over 500,000, you only need to worry about the turbo which failed in my car quite spectacularly (lots of black exhaust smoke) but nothing which couldn't be repaired. It was an expensive bill though.
If you worry about the hydraulics, there's a specialist (Chevronic)

A lovely car and a true survivor. Been great to document the journey.
