480 Restoration on TV

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

480 Restoration on TV

Post by Joe S » Wed May 09, 2018 1:18 am

The restoration of K160 HAU was made for Flipping Bangers by the same producers as Wheeler Dealers. This episode will be shown at 9 p.m. on 18th May on Blaze Channel (Sky and Freeview). Let’s hope they do us proud.

reading the reviews I am have the feeling I will watch it hiding behind my fingers. Also, if I remember well they never changed the rusted/bent door but I could be wrong.

Not read the reviews but doesn’t surprise me with the pictures used to advertise it sale after it’s “restoration” and the name of the program, but you never know.

Excellent program, lots of good things said, nothing bad at all. Just a new coil, brake pipe, lock and reattached the headlining. They even liked driving it when done , so a good boost for the marque. :hopping: :hopping: :hopping:

Yes, I enjoyed seeing the car on the TV and a two-tone always looks fabulous and interesting. A striking choice of colour and probably the prettiest interior cloth‎ you can get-- in my opinion.

I would say though that an ignition amplifier and coil can be gotten new for a fraction of the price they paid second hand. I guess they were adding drama by saying that the part was very rare and expensive. A‎s we know differently, I will take most of their figures with a pinch of salt‎ on other episodes that I know less about.

I got confidence to attempt my own saggy headlining and maybe swap lock internals from one door to the other so the driver's and ignition match. ‎I was going to send the headlining away and probably ignore the lock for a bit longer!

They did very well to save a nice car and give it a new lease of life. As long as the arches aren't rotten, most 480's are easy projects. The amount on eBay that are likely condemned to the scrap yard makes me sad as they aren't that bad really but just need a bit of TLC.‎

Thanks! Probably the 480 version that I would like the most. I love that colour combination. Could only spot the dubbed French version of the programme but I will keep looking.

Yeah I got the impression they were perhaps pushing things very optimistically, only saw their Bx Gti episode: in love with the car but some of the numbers were eyebrow raising to say the least...
