Gas struts for pop-up headlights
Please note: As of 28th of march, the order has been dispatched to the company providing the struts, so subscribing to the groupbuy is no longer possible. Regardless, if you need these struts, PM me and I'll see what I can do!
Hi everyone,
While replacing my broken headlamp motor last saturday, I found out the gas strut was far from a working condition either.
So, after some careful measurement I set around enquiring at several local companies, as I have some contacts at those through my dayjob.
Long story short, they can provide me with the gas struts at quite a nice price, so I can offer them at around €17.50 per strut, excluding postage from the Netherlands to wherever you are located.
This price is valid from 25 struts onward.
On most 480 models the gas springs will have long gone by now if they have never been replaced, leading to excessive strain on the headlamp motor, which causes the motor to fail a lot quicker.
So, if anyone is interested in a set of headlamp struts for €35,- please let me know, just shoot me a PM, that might be the easiest way.
This is just a post to see if anyone is interested, so no obligations until the order actually goes out, at which point I'll let everyone know.
I'm looking to get the order out around the 22nd of March, so please let me know by then.
Cheers,
Dylan

Re: Gas struts for pop-up headlights
Wait, what? A *set* for 35 Euro? I thought that was the price for each strut.
If you can get them for 35 per two struts, count me in for two sets (4 struts in total).

Cheers to both of you! I'll count you guys in.
I got my test fit strut in the mail today, will be test fitting it somewhere this week to make sure that it is the correct size and strength. I'll keep you guys posted with more photos along the way. For now, this is the strut itself.
Cheers,
Dylan

'Freely' not free. Free and EBay are mutualy exclusive anyway although a pair for £15-20 is better than having to prop up the lid with a wooden pole when you work in the boot.
You can borrow it for your wife if you want:)

Re: Gas struts for pop-up headlights
Test fitted the struts yesterday, they fit just perfectly:
It's about half an hours work if you've had the front end off before, might even be doable without removing the nose cone. But I reckoned it wasn't worth the hassle.
Cheers,
Dylan

are you suggesting I use the wooden pole to allow Mrs to keep lid open or hand the pole to my Mrsfrenchfries wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 7:56 am'Freely' not free. Alan, you are a disturbing individual, you would make a good friend
You find them for £20 usually, they are not "Volvo" as such though.
