Re: eBay watch!
It should have a colour coded front bumper .
still for £350 is well worth a punt and its only Cardiff only 2 trains away from Glasgow.

Yes, Jim, change at Crewe; 5 hours 38 minutes and £141.glasgowjim wrote:It should have a colour coded front bumper .

Still, a good price. I have to say I'm not fond of the stickers and there doesn't seem to be hard evidence of the cambelt change. Do you think the bumper has been painted black simply because the owner preferred It?

Re: eBay watch!
hi Chris its only £57 crazy I know but if you book a single Glasgow to Cardiff (changing at Crewe) it is £141 but and this is the crazy bit for the same trains buy a ticket to Crewe then a seaparate ticket to Cardiff and its way cheaper. Sometimes you have to go Glasgow to Birmingham new street or Manchester Picadilly then a ticket from there to cardiff and its only £57 if you pick the trains wisely and book a day or so ahead of time.
The national rail enquiries website is an absolute must for cheap train travel iespecially f you are prepared to go at odd hours. Although sometimes the trains can be very expensive. The last journey down south for a 480 was to Milton Keynes and it was sooo much cheaper to go Glasgow to Manchester by megabus and then Manchester piccadilly to MK by train. Had to spend 3 or so hours in Manchester which is no great hardship
Just booked a rail ticket Glasgow to Thurso right at the top end of Scotland cost for 2 singles ( 1 out & 1 back)£15.71p each way cost of a return ticket same trains same seats £121 (compares to £35.42p).
total madness
considering the number of times I have travelled south to pick up a car I have gotten to be quite good at finding cheap travel. If I have to travel via London then it has to be megabus as there are no cheap trains to London. The only downside to megabus is that it takes a long time to get to London. Sp you have to pick your seat wisely to get good leg room + I can sleep on the edge of a razor / anywhere anytime so its not a big deal for me. The bit I hate is the long night drive up the M6 its sooo boring at night.
longest drive was from 10 miles from the English Channel to Glasgow in a 1.4 ltr 340 with no overdrive/5th gear.

Re: eBay watch!
That's a good saving, Jim. I am familiar with split ticketing although I rarely need to use it myself.
The good deal I use sometimes is a Saveaway day ticket on Merseytravel: £4.60 gets me all the trains on the system, all the buses and the Mersey Ferry, which alone costs £6 return (& that's for an old fart like me).

Re: eBay watch!
In my defence.... I sold one!
Plus I probably won't buy the Geordie one, just like looking on the net, grass is greener ( ) and all that....although if you actually go and see them it's hard to walk away without keys in hand and the bank manager on the phone
AND there is the matter of the M-reg manual turbo with fancy alloys to be resolved . The word is it will go for an MOT soon...so then hopefully I'll be the one working out how to get to Glasgow on planes, trains and automobiles.....

Re: eBay watch!
LOL I was worrying about that. Last manual car I owned was years ago.......
Just to prove I am worthy of a 'non-automatic' turbo, here is a list of some manual stuff I can remember driving (badly):
Ford Focus
Audi A6
Volvo 460 LHD
Renault 5's mark 1s and mark 2s
Citreon C5
Land Rover Defender
Ford P100
Austin Montego Countryman
Nissan Micra
Vauxhaull Viva
