Well, I know that Turbo's and later's N/A's have bronze in some components of the gearbox and need some special gearbox oil.
But... do the first's ES, from 1986, have bronze components in the gearbox? Can it get a "normal" gearbox oil or it also need the Volvo one?

Just been to the Volvo dealer to get me the special Volvo oil
The man told me , to be sure, put the Volvo oil in, as off factory they put this oil in
Moreover the oil doesn't need a change, just fill it up.
Unless you won the lottery. It's €13/ltr and you need 3.4 ltr
for an empty gearbox

Hi
I was able to get a Galp oil that is GL4 and API MIL-L-2105 compliant @ arround 6€ / liter
Here ELF TransELF is more expensive than the Volvo oil.
Changed it, and the gearbox is a looot better. Sometimes it was very difficult to put some gears, especially 1st, 2nd and 3rd and it was very difficult to put Reverse without a lot of noise. Sometimes I simply can not put 3rd at all.
Now it is as new, smooth changes in all gears, perfect
