A/C button nest to gearstick!
My 1992 480ES has a normal style heater panel and a Recirc button and a button with a (*) on it next to the gear stick. Is this usual.
BTW the car does have an A/C compressor before any jokes occur
Though it probably needs regassing! as the air is not cold ,but it's cold enough in England anyway

My '91 ES has aircon controls as you describe: it won;t blow cold although I hear the compressor. It may be user error as I have no idea how to operate it, but as the car sat for 6 months before I bought it I think it likely that it needs regassing. No idea how much that'll be thogh, so I suspect I'll leave it until summer!
Happy driving!!

There is a pressure switch in all AC-systems that stops the compressor from engaging if there isn't enough pressure in the system.MatBat wrote:I can't even get the compressor to engage when I push the a/c button, so I don't know if it needs regassing until I get the unit to work.
Oh well
It's winter now anyway.
If the compressor doesn't start ( a click and it puts a little load on the engine and the fan also starts ) you most likely need to get the system filled up...

Ac / * button
Does you're car have an automatic gearbox? --> If so, the *-button is meant to skip the first gear and start from the second. This is meant to avoid wheel-spin in slippery conditions.

Apparently it has ABS though it doesn't seem to work. I am confident that the button is for the A/C because when pressing it the blower fan (for heater/vents etc.) starts, thus it must be connected to the ventilation system. Also it there is no other button, to engage the compressor, and next to the (*) button there is a recirculate button
Shame would like traction control
Though I am using 195/55 Michelins which stick like glue
