clutch just died!
driving along and slowed down for lights felt something go via the clutch pedal and couldnt get the car out of gear crawled home but had to stop at lights managed to knock car out of gear ke[t trying to pump pedal no effect stood like a complete tube in pouring raing staring at engine looking for divine inspiration or something really really obvious no such luck!
managed somehow to get the car back into 1st gear then limped home without stopping via back roads - a bit hairy at times .
It seems the clutch is buggered , previously awkward to engage 1st sometimes but I reckoned that the clutch would need changed in about 4 to 6 months just by the height of the biting point.
Anyone with experience of this type of failure and how much did it cost to repair/

thrust bearing? more than likely i would say if the cluth itself is coming to the end of its life, it went on mine just as it started to slip with similar symptoms: pedal required LOTS of effort to move!
you're in luck for getting it changed tho! volvomax in the east end did mine for £200 parts and labour, really know their stuff, and helpfull too! i believe vdg has had his done there too, cant recomend them highly enough, especially at that price. think the guy you're after is Dougie, i dont have any details to hand but it will all be on here somewhere.
edit, re-reading your post it could just be the clutch cable, if its snapped then the pedal will move freely, worth checking first; cost of cable<cost of clutch!

That place in glasgow seems to do a clutch for not a lot more than 200 quid. Ask VDG?
You drove home in first? I'd have changed up to third. Its quite doable without a clutch, especially if you get the engine and car speed to tie up for the speed you're going!!

Just going out to check cable now,
John Turbo - big problem was I had to negotiate lots of corners and junctions tried to do journey nonstop!
Would have wrecked something if going any faster!
Owen biggest problem is I am on wrong side of city with no clutch will probably have to tow car very slowly through the town - much fun
Ps turned up at TESCO s on Sun at 10.20 didnt see anyone so when home after eleven and then looked at the site DOH sometimes I my dumbness surprises even me

The spares cae ias rock solid! and to cap it all dropped the nut securine the clip to pedal last night and cant find it. Oh the joys of a 480

definitely the clutch gone gone eventually had to take it to volvomax but it was fun trying to go from one side of glasgow during the day to the other without stopping and with as few as possible gear changes .
Volvomax had a bolt shear on them and had to weld a small plate on after cutting seized bolt out. Just as well I gave up and took it to them.
