Genuine Volvo stiffer springs!

Post by catgroom » Sun Aug 27, 2006 8:02 pm

This information may appeal to you if you dont want to lower your car,but would like improved handling through stiffer springs.

A mate from Volvo-Tech forum has kindly offered to send me info by post on the different colour codings of Volvo springs.

He has just informed me that there was 6 different types of spring for the 440/460 fronts, which fit ours. There are also 4 types for the rear. These springs are all colour coded and correspond to a chart which I will post once I receive it mid next week.

Could be summit for some of us here?

From memory of the phone convo,Red is the stiffest at 21 nms.Black is the softest at 12 nms-boing!

For the front theres grey, red, blue, yellow, green and black.Rears were black, red, green, yellow IIRC.

Im guessing Volvo prices will apply, naturally! Not sure who made them for Volvo though.Maybe Mr Foxus would know this, being a production line zombie

;)

Steve, is that what volvo actually told you?

I'm not sure they would, as the shorter ones are actually stiffer, they will compress less when the weight of the car is on them resulting in the same ride height overall, I reckon.

Just curious....

Actually.... looking again, it would appear that yellow would be 10mm lower than blue as they have the same spring rate.......hmmm, But then the grey wouldn't be 100mm/10CM higher than blue cos they are much softer....
Job for someone who can be arsed to work out the spring rates/length and preload?
Some of this would also be affected by the condition of your shocks too, so rebound would come into it?

Sorry too drop in this old topic.

Too work out how much the deflection of the springs are, You should know the lower wishbone length, the distance from the wishbone pivot and atachment of the spring and the angle of the spring.

Search the web on wheel rate and installation ratio for calculations and better explaination.

Hi Matt ya blonde bastard, from the future!

No problem mate.Sarum Boy from Volvoclub.orgy had go this info from his main dealer and copied it so I passed it on.Not sure if anyone will use it,also the costs of these springs are typically Volvo I expect!

For those wishing to upgrade using genuine Volvo parts (TMus!) these should be right up their junction, alley, boulevard etc!

I read on a other Volvo forum that the yellow springs are used in the Volvo sport suspension kit. (sportsline)
The black ones are standard
grey for heavy load (towing)

but Rpruen has also an orginal Volvo kit with blue springs!
