Anyone want to guess...

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

Anyone want to guess...

Post by Murf » Mon May 22, 2006 5:27 pm

...when the last time the brake fluid in my new turbo was changed

no, thats not a bottle of tesco savers coke!!

Brakes have been transformed by the fluid change, plus i fitted late spec turbo vented discs and the bigger calipers to my early turbo.
Bring on the track days :)

mmmmm, yummy!

I helped guitarcarfanatic change his brake fluid a little while ago.....The stuff that came out of there was RED (??) with gloopy bits in it, and a black floating sediment... god knows what it was, I reckon someone had maybe put ATF or similar in by mistake...

ATF???? no wonder the brakes were crap!

Big question is, what do i do with the old fluid? Do i just pour it down the drain like you do with old engine oil?? ;)

Oh no, not cr@p pop!

Old brake fluid/engine oil - take it down your local municipal tip - they'll dispose of it foc without killing off the enviroment.

Watch yourself as that brake fluid is REAL nasty stuff - ended up in the docs when I was younger after getting it on my hands changing the brakes on the MG, fingers swelled up then split open with all white gunge coming out of them few weeks afterwards, scared the cr@p outta me at the time. Will show you the scars at the next meet.

Good reminder for me to do the ES and GT.... Ad, you free to pump them pedals sometime?

Stu.

Yeh that sediment was the worrying thing about it! The brakes worked brilliant after that which is a good thing....The richmod has a special way of making you wanna go faster and faster!!!!

What brake fluid did u use?

I noticed a big big difference after bleeding the whole circuit and changing it to dot 5.1 spec. Much much, much better :)

Oh, and that's gotta be TESCO's savers COKE. No other fluid has that kind of nasty color! oh wait.. maybe volvo brake fluid after 4 decades..hmmmmm

Ross is right, no need to dump rubbish now, take it down the tip!

If you use Dot4 (or is it DotIII?) brake fluid, it's a silicone fluid that doesn't absorb moisture, so in theory doesn't deteriorate like standard fluid which absorbs moisture out of the system (and goes skanky). It also has the added bonus of being non-harmful to skin too.

Downside is it cost 4times as much..... :?

Just wear those surgical gloves when handling me finks!

Always remember the 3 R's Principle

Reduce - Reduce the amount of rubbish you create.
Reuse - Reuse items such as carrier bags, lunch boxes etc.
Recycle - Go to your local recycling site.

Spot the council worker!!

I used castrol dot4 fluid, supposed to have a higher boiling point than normal stuff, should be at good at £10 a litre!
I didnt use 5.1 cos the seals get eaten by it on early cars.

As for the old fluid, i put it in my soda stream and made some tasty beverage with it!!

(only joking, who has a soda stream these days!!??)

Hey Dannus,I find the best thing to do with used oil is to accumulate a woodpile behind your sheddus.

Then, when you have to empty your oil container, pour the oil over all the wood and most of it gets soaked up by the wood and not the ground..........ish!!!!

:?

good thing about that is then when youve finished your crafty fag, just flick the butt at the pile to remove all traces of any indiscretions!
