Making a kit-car track car

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

Making a kit-car track car

Post by aibast » Wed Sep 26, 2007 7:08 am

HI all, I'm gona start building myself a trackcar kit-car. As most of you are from england and that place is the place for kit-cars. Has anyone done anything like that and has enyone any experience and so on? As I'm building it from ground up and haven't desided on a base car. Thinking of a Lada at the moment, because in here there are a lot of oldschool racemechaniks who realy know how to make them realy realy fast. + electics are easy on them. So if anyone can give me advice please do so.

Buy the book " build your own sportscar for 250 pounds" by Ron Champion.
It describes to build a Lotus 7 style car with a Ford Escort Mk1,2 donor.

www.locostbuilders.co.uk is great too.

 I've got that one kicking around at home too, I was going to suggest the Escort, but couldn't remember where I'd read about it...

My dad is using the Scimitar for his kit car... :cryhard:

build your own sportscar for 250 pounds
Not with a Mk1 or 2 escort you wont, even completely shafted 1 litre base cars are going for big cash these days!
If youve got an automatic 2 door shell thats rot free its a license to print money, the rally boys will snap your hand off for it!

Yes, 250 pounds is a little bit under estimated. 2500 pounds does seems a better indication.

Just get a caterham 7 and pick your own engine, it'll save you hassle and probably money in the long term plus it'll be worth something when you go to sell it on :D

Not to mention the fun factor in sideways driving at the slightest hint of rain! ;)
