Wanted Alternator within reasonable travel of Edinburgh

Cleaned up the garage and found some parts you want to sell? Or are you looking for that one part? You can advertise or request just about anything that has to do with the Volvo 480 in here: brochures, towing-hooks, antenna's, etc etc...

Post by hailesmail » Sat Apr 11, 2009 9:46 am

Mot is due this week and my alternator has failed, dont want to spend loads of money getting an alternator for her to fail the mot.

If anyone has a known working one within reasonable travelling distance (will be expensive to post) for up to £25 please let me know.

Hmm, I can get a recon for about £60-70 so thought that would be reasonable for one off a scrapper, what would be more realistic?

Theres a 480 in Allparts in BonnyBridge. I was there on Friday, and the alternator was still in the car, would be worth giving them a ring and asking for a price.

Depending on how the alternator has failed, if the brushes just need replacing, it's very easy to do (or at least, it was on my 480 turbo).

It's a screwed up recon I got fitted about 18 months ago. it appears the centre bolt wasn't tightened correctly and the pulley, fan, spacer and body are now quite badly damaged. Perhaps a pulley, fan and spacer would solve the problem, though we aren't sure no other damage has been caused internally.

If Derek's kind offer isn't suitable I have a good condition alternator from a 93 Turbo here if you want it. I am in Glasgow so not to far away.

Thanks very much Derek, I really appreciate it.

However Rohan's alternator is of known condition, so common sense says that would be a better bet than an unknown scrapyard one, how much do you want for it Rohan?

Collecting from Glasgow would be no problem at all

Multiple fails :(

3 x brake pipes, 2 anti rollbar linkages, a spring and a bulb, mostly labour but about £4-500

It's now on ebay for spares/repair :(

Sorry to hear that, your main cost would be the brake pipes, if you shop around you could probably find a garage that would change them for max £150. The anti-roll bar links are not hard to change.

Cheers

Doug
