Aux Driving Lamps : Wanted!
Hi wedge folk
I have stripped my auxiliary main beam units down, primarily to clean them... but its worse than that...
The chrome is flaking off in chunks...
WANTED! Does anyone have any aux main beam spots with salvageable reflectors?
I'm not fussed about the glass or the plastic adjusters... just the metal reflector part. I appreciate they can never be 'as new' but if they have chrome, it's a start!
Anything with broken adjusters or cracked glass the better.
I got a quote today for re-chroming and suffered a minor heart attack!
Many thanks,
Jay.

Re: Aux Driving Lamps : Wanted!
Try giving them a spray with aluminium finish paint.
You might be surprised with how they come out.
I have some spares but they are about as bad as yours.

Re: Aux Driving Lamps : Wanted!
Excellent thank you.
Following the re-chrome quote I am going to have to think outside the box.
Paint won’t stand the heat sadly, and also won’t provide good main beam performance.
It appears the sun beats down and destroys the chrome on the bottom section - that facing the sun. This is also the most visible part as a passing pedestrian.
Reflector removal has revealed they (the reflectors) are totally symmetrical on both horizontal and vertical planes, so they can be inverted. They are also not handed.
So, the sun damaged bottom, can become the top, and you’d need to lay on your back to see it.
Obviously with massive flaking, like mine, neither way up is an option !

Re: Aux Driving Lamps : Wanted!
quick google came up with this
https://www.gaterosplating.co.uk/index. ... uct_id=223
https://classic-plating.co.uk/product/r ... ating-kit/
not cheap, but good if need a LOAD of stuff made shiny?
makes Jeffs 'chemistry experiments' looks like childs play, or adapt Jeffs chemistry kit, getting a nickel anode is the VERY expensive part, and you need a metal base to work with . . . .
if it was only the flat surfaces then thin section of SS might be an option?
and /or made in three sections? curve (single plane/axis) top & bottom
BUT then is it 'legit' ?

Re: Aux Driving Lamps : Wanted!
a couple more random thoughts from me....
LED bulbs - Beam pattern isn't too important in the full beam and LED's offer a lower heat output; Combined with their occasional use could....
Mean Rustoleum's chrome paint, may be effective?

Re: Aux Driving Lamps : Wanted!
All excellent suggestions.
I’m an OE kinda guy and some reflectors in fair condition, that I can invert if necessary, will do me just fine.
Fingers crossed.
Otherwise it’s £350
Amazingly Skandix have new old stock Hella’s on the shelf.
If I purchase that pair, I will have spent nearly £1000 on lighting alone and that’s just mental asylum territory
I’ve just raised the price of second hand items now

I'll have a look - not sure if I still have any of these left but we can definitely sort something if I have. Will let you know asap.

Re: Aux Driving Lamps : Wanted!
Thank you David.
I was genuinely hoping someone might have one with a cracked glass in the back of their shed and I can rob it for its reflector.
I put all my eggs in the "480cx" basket but the chap who posted the parts bonanza hasn't replied since.
480cx... we need you!

Re: Aux Driving Lamps : Wanted!
Had a look and my spares, the glass fell off one and the other had a crack on the lens. If David doesn't have anything better.
Good tip about inverting the reflector, really will make the car look better.

Re: Aux Driving Lamps : Wanted!
Sorry for the delay getting back on this - have now checked and much to my surprise I dont have any spare auxiliary lights at all.
Enough headlights to illuminate a fleet, but not the ones you need. Sorry.
David

No worries David; have those 'missing glass' items coming from Arthuy. Thanks for checking.
