WANTED - Matchbox 480!

Post by Dan the 480 Man » Mon Jun 11, 2007 11:52 am

I'm never home when eBay auctions end, and even with my max bid, i still never win....i've bid and lost on 7 now

So if anybody has one, let me know! I'm re-spraying it the colour of my car, and lowering it as a nice novel interior feature  So, so sad, but i don't care...

Let me know :D

How exactly do you lower a matchbox car?!

Are you sure you want to lower it?!

I'm aware of the lowering issues with a 480 but its not going to be doing many miles once finished. Tyre wear isn't a problem either. :D

Hmmm, it seems Matchbox chaved my car out of the box. However rally stripes look much better than the rims which originally looked like minature CD's on each wheel.

Image

The good thing is, even with a broken rear axle this 480 still drives!

The MiniChamps 1:43 model is very, very, very nice. It's based on a 1986 ES and is very well detailed! Only 3024 produced, so it's a bit of a limited item, but reasonable enough to get a hold of.

AHC Models also made a few 1:43 480s. Mine was new and unused when I bought it, but it doesn't seem to be of very good quality, even though it is quite slick with the opening doors and pop-up lights! If I had of known this I wouldn't have displayed it on my dash, as it is now wreaked and they seem quite hard to get a hold of!

Just did a search actually, and I came across these (very, to me) interesting links:

http://web.telia.com/~u85310201/innehall/models.html

AND, proof that there is a 1:43 scale Cabrio out there:

http://www.antp.be/perso/modelcars/deta ... m=24&e=&f=

I don't have any of the Matchbox models, they never turn up when I want one yet when I'm not looking for one there's always a few looming around!

Were there any other brands that released a 480?

I'd absolutely love an 1:18 early Turbo, or even a white Celebration! :volvo:

Oh, just found one from Pilen:

I've two of the AHC models also. Cost me almost £80 for a grey ES and a white Cabrio model on eBay. Thanks mainly to a bidding war amongst site members. I don't want to keep them perfect, much better to display them nicley and get some use out of them I feel. The matchbox one is so bad because I had that as a kid and played with it until it reached that condition.
