Something is odd

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Yes... I seem to remember my dad saying, when we had our turbo (many years ago), that you could tell which one's were turbo's, by the colour coded bumpers.

Should it not have had clear indicators on a '92, or is this the year they changed? Anyway, the sellers ebay shop name would make me stay well clear!!

I thought the colour bumper meant it was an upgrade? My 92 or 93 never had clears!

Hi Martin,

The black version has always had colour coded bumpers. My Black 89' ES looked good and as you know the red line added that extra touch.

My 90' Red Turbo has colour coded bumpers. The 90' ES I bought earlier this year did not. The 93' 2.0 ES I bought earlier this year was in metallic blue and did have colour coded bumpers.

The 95' Celebration has colour coded bumpers but it is in the dark grey, it also has white indicators.

All very confusing but once all the brochures I have ordered arrive I will see what they say.

I guess my concern on this one is the guy may be trying to pull a fast one!

Regards

Chris

Perhaps this guy just wrecked his original bumpers and found these ones on a scrappy

That one in the pic has always had those bumpers. You can tell because it also has the black bump strips down the side, that they introduced 91-ish.
the colour coded bumper cars have teh bigger bump strips, and teh older black bumper cars have the big colour coded bump strips too.

Maybe it is an ES and they are confused?

happens a lot!

(sen lots of ES-turbos haven't we?!)

I am more than interested in this guy now. As you will see he has responded to my emailed questions about it being a Turbo by adding additional info on the item.

I have re emailed him and explained the obvious, having a Turbo badge does not make it a Turbo.

Be interesting to see his next reaction.

recent service, it is well known that renault supplied the engines for the volvo 480.But the standard engine wasnt good enough for volvo so porsche was hired because of the change by porsche on the heron-cylinders,cylinderhead,manifold,bosch injectors and turbo One could say she is porche powered :-) plus the big differance between the 480 es and the turbo is the big badge on the back saying 480 turbo(who ever asked me the question about the differance between an ES and a TURBO)

I have never seen a turbo in this colour with colour coded bumper.

I know of another turbo in this colour with out colour coded bumpers

Also I know its not a 480 but the colour coded bumpers worked the same way with the 440 turbo. Now my mate has a 440 turbo in this colour (petrol Blue i believe) and he to doesn't have colour coded bumpers
