20th Birthday of the Volvo 480 in 2006 -> Meeting in Euro

Post by fantomaz » Mon Sep 12, 2005 2:39 pm

In case that no one of ClubEurope will organize a meeting in 2006
(for what ever reasen) Der-Kleine-Elch from Germany is willing to!

We talked to ClubEurope but get no answer till today. Its no flame
against the ClubEurope, but in our opinion we have to use all time
we can get for such a big event we plan.

We talked already to several people who will help us to bring things together, like some sponsors and partners.

So we will start the project next week, unless someone will talk to us
from Club Europe that we will do it together or the Club Europe will do it
alone or whatever, but we have to start because time is fleeting...

Again, no flame, but hope to hear from you ClubEurope

Honoustly I think all clubs should organize one big meeting and put their hands together...
So we can all gather together and make it the biggest meeting at the moment of te 20th anniversary...
JUST MY OPINION

Hey Bakke,

so we think too!

But as I said in my first posting: time is runnig away.
If we will organize a really big meeting, and I mean big, than we
have to start as soon as possible.

I have organized several meetings for 480 drivers and other
car enthusiast (e.g. oldtimers) and I know how much work it is.

For example:
- to integrate Volvo (also heritage, Hi Bengt  )
- to have a band playing (or two :D ) on Saturday night
- to have a part supplier corner
- to have some nice drives on Friday and Saturday
- to have enough campgrounds, hotels and so on
to be continued

So lets work together, not only talk together

Hi guy's, yes you're right, if its going to be as big as you suggest then some decisions need to be made pretty soon. We are having a fairly large meet in Lincoln this weekend, we will try and mke sure its on the agenda.....I'm keen to attend a 2006 continental meet, and I know some of the other Brits would be interested, but of course it depends on the venue......Belgium would be great IMHO

Hmmm, is the Der-Kleine-Elch an club like the Volvo 480 Club Europe and the Belgian club (iew free) or more like the Volvo 480 Register (paid)?
I think mixing free and paid clubs for a meeting are a dangerous thing. Financial issues and the like.

But aren't we all 480 mad?

Good luck with the preparations

Hi Ettore

its more like a mix with the money.
All activitys are mostly for free and everybody can
participate.
But of course you need a little money to do, for example,
all the internet stuff or all the snail mails for people who
have no internet and so on.

We have no financial interrest in the club, so all the
money goes into projects.

And the question is : "Where will the meeting take place ?".

That has been previously discussed in an other post but, no clear answer so far.
I think anyway that a little visit to Born (where the 480 was made) is mandatory.
I can contact public relation department at volvo Ghent in order to arrange a visit of the volvo factory (where the C30 will be produced in the coming months) if you wish.
It's definitively possible to visit both site on the same week-end. There is a max. 3 hour ride between Born and Ghent, mostly motorways.

Don't forget to involve the french-speaking club aswell.

I think Born would be the magical place to meet ... It's sad they don't produce any volvo's anymore there, otherwise we could have combined it with a nice tour in the factory ...

I live half-way between Born and Ghent.

I think we should definitively go to Born but a visit of the Ghent factory is much more interesting.

May I make you a proposal : check here.
It's a very central location and it is possible to plan road trip to Netherlands, Germany, France, Lux. or Belgium (off course) from there.
It's a camping with the possibility to rent small chalets/bungallows.
Price are very affordable, and it has an open-air swimming pool and large parking lots.

I know about a similar place in south Netherlands : Gulpen.
And there is also one in eastern belgium near the german border : Butchenbach.

Let me know if you are intersested otherwise, make your own proposal ...

The Geneva Motorshow is from 2 march-12 march 2006.
I really want to go there (without 480 since we dont have it anymore). Im not sure if it is possible with things I have to do for school.
I'll see

Yes, I think that's a good idea too, I'm sure volvofox will be happy to lecture us about 480 birth etc
The next thing will be getting everyone to come, and even more difficule, everyone to stick together, unlike past 480 meetings where dutch and french were in 2 different places, and brits, belgians and germans were wandering around not understanding why no one was talking. I'm not saying it's anyone in particular's fault, but it's always like that. No one understands it's a get together for 480 owners, not for saying "my french 480 is better than your's etc. .
Anyway, I'm for it and will do my best to be there, hoping I'll be able to have holidays, and if I can, give a hand by coming up earlier if there's any need for extra people for sorting out. Plus if the german lot are organising, I'd be able to practice my german

I think its a fantastic idea. Would be great to get a field full of 480's from all over the place. You could divide the place into sections, with clubs having their own area but all kind of together if you know what i mean?

I'd be up for it. Could even arrange a meeting place in the Uk to travel down with a massive convoy to the Ferry's or however you'd want to travel...

Its a nice idea, but it's just getting people to be able to make the journey, be able to get the time off work and to finance the petrol, travel, accomodation etc.

An interesting proposal none-the-less.
