For all dutch-speaking members

Post by coyote1980 » Mon Nov 17, 2003 9:44 pm

We have been contacted by various members if a dutch couter-forum was possible. It took a lot of discussing between the board-members before we decided there was sufficient ground for a dutch version of the forum. The problem was that a large part of the dutch members thought the barrier for the english forum was too big. But there are a lot of dutchies with 480, that's why we chose to do this.

In dutch: er is een Nederlandstalig forum voor Volvo 480 fans bijgekomen! Iedereen die daar wil posten moet zich wel daar apart aanmelden. Het adres van het Nederlandstalige deel is:
http://volvo480.northernscum.org.uk/forum_nl/

Veel plezier op het nieuwe extra forum!

Who knows, maybe in a few years time the homepage will be available in various languages, but this is a nice start ;)

We'll see how good it is used on the longer run (2 to 3 months). If no one posts there by that time it might leave again, but that won't happen probably.

Even though my native language is Dutch I prefer to use this forum... I'll look at the new forum, but I enjoy this English one :D

I'm not sure this is a good move - as already well discussed, there are native language 480 boards for nearly all european countries already - I don't think having seperate concurrent boards on this site is a good move, for 2 reasons - it dilutes the knowledge across boards and 2) it might upset other people becasue their language hasn't been catered for.

Now what WOULD be a good idea is if we could somehow tap into that online translator I posted and show the ONE forum in MANY languages - I'm sure that must be possible... OK, the translator isn't perfect, but most people would get the gist of what was being said, and it means it wouldn't matter if people post in their native tongue, because we'd all be viewing a translated version in whatever language we want to read it in...

Having read an additional explanation on the messageboardof our belgian friends (ML480GTnl entry 18-11-2003 19:21) I doubt that this is a step in the right direction.
Surley I do not know what's going on behind the scene but I feel that this is a real step in the wrong direction.

I have made some posts/answers there , and its delicious calm there. Before i get scitsophrenic : wat were te reasons and goals to make this site ?

was it to give a better option as the dutch 480register ? to get back all dutch members of the belgian 480 site ? go give the few posters of this site a safe heaven?

I also notice that you (coyote) kind of made this initiative, but then suddently stop as moderator.

Now, I am easy going.. You do wat ever you like with these great clubs, but I would like some more opennes. "glasnost" if you like

Now, don't mind the tone of this message, I am just curious. :D

thanks so far.

Luck

Somehow (going by the quietness that you mention) I don't think this was Daniel's initiative - he just implemented it - remmeber there's more to our club than just Daniels (great) efforts - there's an entire panel of people who make the decisions as well as Daniel - perhaps it was the initiative of others?

There was a concensus on implementing this dutch board. The idea is that every country should have its own national forum in native language, and apart from that there should be a pan-european forum (which is this great forum) in the english language.

I personally will be more on this forum, but of course I will also keep an eye on the dutch forum. The dutch forum is merely something we did because we were asked by some members. We simply host it by request. Most major european countries now have their own national forum next to this european forum.

I'm always looking for new things to do with the website, some may be better than others. The important thing is that things happen around here and it's not all static, if you get what I mean...

sorry I gave you folks the feel i was complaining again, I wasn't. I was just curious., like a bus passenger, wanting to know where the driver is headed (so i can get out on time, if I don't feel this is the right direction)
But thats strictly personal. I think things were going great

technically speaking the dutch forum should not be regarded as a dutch version of a Club EUROPE version (even though we do host it), but we merely host a version for everyone from Holland with a 480 (for the time being).

Everyone has a choice, you can either post there, or don't post there. And if it has evolved into some sort of Wild West ghost-city in a few months time it might vanish in thin air, even though I doubt that will be the case...
