ANNOUNCEMENT: What extras could the clubs website use?
Hi 480-gang!
While I have the time to work on new / better things for the website I invite you all to reply here with suggestions for the site! Wonder what things might be missing

Hmmm, rating threads doesn't sound too difficult, think a 'copy&paste'-script for that should exist.Ettore Bugatti wrote:some ideas:
- A button to rate threads
- something to make certain threads sticky
- same inlog for site and forum
- more emoticons

Same login for site and forum should be doable as well. I have forgotten all about this and as I am almost going on holiday it will take some time to have created it. But I have to figure some things out first...
I have a nice bunch of better emoticons ready, just waiting for a chance to upload them to dragon
As for the chatbox: there is one at http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/clubdata/chatbox.html
But thanx for the comment! It is this kind of input we need!!

This maybe a strange request but is it possible to add some way to disable images within posts? I browse the forum with a PDA and it takes ages to download the images.
If I turn off images in the browser then the reply buttons don't work, so that's not an option. Having an option in profile that displays images as a link would be great for gprs / modem users.
Thanks
Richard

OK
Start the estimated start date of any work as being sometime in 2008 though.

Part No.s
I've had problems with Volvo thrice (!) getting the correct parts over the phone.
1. Seatbelt arms... seatbelt clunk click thing;
2. Seatbelt guide roller... guide behind trim for seatbelt;
3. Oil sender unit... same stupid oil switch and waited ages and didn't get adapter when it finally came.
Realised discrepancy in price No. 1
They refunded No. 2
I had to pay for No. 3 even though it just lives in its bag in my glovebox.
Anyway, I ramble BUT my point is:
How about a list of useful part no.s and approximate prices (I understand the problems prices could cause so make sure they are labeled GUIDE.
For example I would have never of thought of new heater control knobs (less than £1 each) or weatherstrips (strip along door windows that always corrode and expand) (£15 - £20 if I recall correctly) were VERY reasonable until I saw them while looking various posts.
This list would avoid getting the wrong parts (and in some cases no refund if you read the small print) and also act as a list of nice "additions" or "spruce-ups" that you might not otherwise of thought of.
Also an award for first use of the word "thrice" would be a good idea
And finally I think universal logon for Forum and Site (can't remember when I last logged in there). If not possible, just the possibility to change site password to one I can remember instead of pasting it from e-mail when I want to look at stuff.

Re: Part No.s
A list of part numbers that are quite common and a price indication are not too hard to make, I might start making one in fact! Good tip!jamescarruthers wrote:I've had problems with Volvo thrice (!) getting the correct parts over the phone.

The universal login is quite difficult to make. You CAN (for a long time) change the password for the website Follow the HELP-link at the top of the page to find out more

Back O/T...
Just been looking round the club site, and read just the first page of the guestbook....
At a guess, half of the entries are questions
Maybe in, the little note at the top could say in addition to not posting HTML or adverts
If you have any questions about the 480, please direct them to the FORUM, where there is a large community that will be more than willing to help you.
Perhaps then we would get ,
a) more forum members,
b) a tidier guestbook
Just a suggestion

thanx for the tip
At the moment I already remove rubbish from the guestbook every now and then, and when questions are asked I often copy/paste the question in a reply to the poster and ask him nicely to post on the forum. Sometimes I remove the question. I will keep the guestbook cleaner (was planning to do so anyways, but never invested the time to do so...).
Cheers,
Daniel
