Don't be scared when you look at the menu on the homepage! Nothing has been deleted there, it has simply been rearranged under the members-section!

So visit the 'members only' part of the site to look around the various helpfull / nice things. I just finished an applet where you can enter your VIN (vehicle identification number, f.i. XLBEY313ESG590301) and see what it says about your car. Applet also works for some other volvos (geez, what a work!). Please add replies so I can see what you think of it <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Have fun!!
Yours sincerely,

Daniël Wilten
<IMG SRC="http://www.volvo480.nu/images/clubbansm ...

Wow! Great job!
One question though:
When you say: probably car 12896 build that year
Do you mean it is the 12896th car since 1986 when they started to make 480ies? Or, is it just the 12896th car since january (or probably july/august the previous year when Volvo starts with the new model year). The present tense of the verb 'build' is slightly confusing.... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
Shouldn't it be 'built'? Maybe Mister Slater B Eng (hons) has a suggestion <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Now, one could also connect other information to the info you already have. Like NAP info? Service history? etc. One could make a logbook like they have for the P1800 I saw on the web. Well, I'm not suggesting you should do it, I guess it was quite some work to do what you have now.

Great Job!

Arjan Scheer

I would think it is how many built in total , as only 80,000 480s were built . if that figure was for feb they could of built them all in one year . i didnt know dutchmen could work that fast !!!!.

Dave, Exactly! So it is 'built'. That is: probably the 12896th car built (until then).
It seems you got your hons for a reason... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

regards,

Arjan Scheer

About the signing in (was: Re: Club homepage)

Post by coyote1980 » Wed Feb 27, 2002 8:52 am

Just trying to do my best, thanx!

BTW: about the sign in form, most of the times the sign-in form works perfect. What happens is that I receive an e-mail containing all data that you have entered in the form. This e-mail is sent using your mail programm like outlook, so you can check if it has been send by looking in your send items folder.
What happens next is that once about every two weeks I manually enter all data from all 'sign in forms' mailed to me into a HTML page. This is very time-consuming. What I am thinking of to avoid people not receiving their username and password is to create a standard e-mail containing the username and password wich is send to a new member as soon as we receive the application in our mailbox. Adding new members to the memberlist can then still happen once every two or three weeks, but at least they can immediately log in.
Furthermore I have lost the entire addressbook from outlook containing all your e-mail addresses so in the following days I have to reenter all those mailaddresses and names in my outlook addressbook manually again (*damned* *(&*$%#&), but it was my mistake since that was what I forgot when formatting my harddisk... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">

Anyone who is a member already but hasn't received a password yet can simply send me an e-mail containing his name and memberID, I will then sent the data to you using the mailadress from the memberlist.

Enjoy yourself and keep in mind that I am now planning a nice new page on the members section <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
Yours sincerely,

Daniël Wilten
<IMG SRC="http://www.volvo480.nu/images/clubbansm ...

None taken (offence that is, compliments are <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> ).

Besides, I have just finished working on a new gadget on the side... Some of you might want to install an original Volvo radio from the period that the car was constructed. Well, where do you start when you want to know which one you like? Exactly! Right on the members only section. I will put a new topic named 'radios' online there within a few minutes! Curious what everyone thinks of it this time <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
Yours sincerely,

Daniël Wilten
<IMG SRC="http://www.volvo480.nu/images/clubbansm ...

re: club homepage (radio's)

Post by black turbo » Wed Feb 27, 2002 11:45 pm

Dutchmen m/f can work pretty fast especially in 1988. See 'vin-page on member section' for details.

About the radio's. I once bought a second hand CR-603 for 22.72 Euro's for my first 480. I never managed to install it in the car and make it work. The problem is that the CR-603 (and I guess other Volvo radio's) have a special connector. The intention of Volvo was that customers would only buy Volvo radio's for their Volvo. The connector, in the car only fits on Volvo radio's. And likewise the connector in Volvo radio's only fit in Volvo's. In most 480ies the connector has been replaced with a more universal one. Adaptors which go between a universal connector to a particular volvo radio connection are impossible to get hold of. To cut off the wires on the cable beam in a 480 and replace the universal connector back with a particular volvo connector (f.i. out of a Volvo 850), is a hazardous job: the car might not start after that.

I thought one should know.

regards,

Arjan Scheer

I don't know what makes Black Turbo say that it's a bad idea to cut the wires. That's no problemo! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
As the stereo only needs 10 cables to work properly; 8 or 4 speakercables, powercable and earth. What makes that so difficult?? I don't understand.

My guess is that some wires in the connector are interlinked with each other, so that if you cut the wires before the connector some 'links' will vanish causing the CEM to stop functioning somehow. Sounds strange, but for a 480 no more than logical <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
Yours sincerely,

Daniël Wilten
<IMG SRC="http://www.volvo480.nu/images/clubbansm ...

Well, I was just writing what I've been told. Mechanics are usually clear to me, but I'm clueless about the electricity bit of physics.
What I meant was, that I once suggested to a Volvo mechanic to cut out the connector, put (by solding) a connector in which fits on my radio. And there you go.

The difficult part is of course, to put all the wires in the right slot, otherwise you'll hear Portishead out of your exhaust, Massive Attack under your bonnet and Bach via your ECU. Not to mention the wave by the windscreen wipers and the powersteering wanting to go crowdsurfing.

You probably know how to do it. At the moment, I've a Sony cd player installed in the car with normal loudspeakers in the doors, the little tweeters and loudspeakers in the french fries boxes next to rear seats. So, for me there's no need. I still have the original radio though. I might put it in when I'm really grey and old and don't want my car to make that much 'boom' anymore.... Or, when the 480 really becomes a collectors item and an original radio would add to the value.... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

regards,

Black Turbo

This connector (a.k.a ISO-contact) only have the function of making it easier for you to plugging the stereo in/out if you like to change stereo once and a while. No other function. You really don't need that connector. I can promise you that nothing will happen if you cut it off. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
If you have an electric antenna and other stuff i may be more difficult to handle, but there are experts and they don't cost much, here in Sweden approx. 30 euro.

NO TURBO SHIT-
JUST REAL POWER

The connector mentioned to be cut is NOT a ISO-connector but a Volvo connector...
Yours sincerely,

Daniël Wilten
<IMG SRC="http://www.volvo480.nu/images/clubbansm ...
