Volvo 480 Turbo side stickers

Hi all,
I've just had a look at a nice turbo, from 1988 with black stickers over both sides reading "Volvo 480 Turbo". The owner said, this has to be a special edition, which seems to be really rare these days. As I've never seen a similar one before, I'm just curious, whether this is indeed a special edition.

Never seen these anywhere, not even on the accessories catalogues.

Has to be a rare factory fit (it's an early 1988 Turbo) or custom made. But the car is a bit above my non-existing budget anyway

How 'early' exactly?
Do you know the chassis number or the date of first registration?

March 1, 1989 = first date of registration (sorry thought it was a 1988 first). A Volvo Switzerland Club member told the owner, that this was a very rare version but that the stickers are Volvo originals, but I've never seen these stickers at all.
EDIT: But I must say, they look cool

I wonder why..., but I seem to find similarities between that and this ...
Back in the day, the word
turbo on the outside of any car could mean you had a very special engine
, but by the late 80's I am not so sure
Nevertheless, a tamed turbo-engine like the one the 480 had providing low-end torque and very good driveability was somewhat uncommon to find on petrol engines, so I suppose someone felt it had to make it stand out of the rest of the crowd.

Funnily enough I have seen the same sticker on die-cast models of the 480. I think they look pretty cool

what interests me even more is, if the car had an unusual interior or, what i doubt even more, any differences on the engine?
otherwise i would say its f*ugly stickers on a stock Turbo. Nothing special.

Although it is not very clear this ES seems to be similar.
Hmmm, perhaps these stickers have some story we're all unaware.

Funny, I have a breaker 1989 turbo standing somewhere, with almost the same stickers on the sides.
Will try to post a piccy when I have made pics of it.

Too much 480's with almost similar stickers, maybe in the first years this was a option ?
Here a link to another 480 ES with almost the same sidestickers :
(didn't have time to photograph my breaker turbo with stickers)
