Front spoiler in the works

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Front spoiler in the works

Post by aibast » Sun Dec 24, 2006 8:43 am

Cos as always stealership just asks way to much for these things and there are like 10-15 480 in estonia finding a turbo spoiler is almost impossible. So I started making my own. Used a Pu-Foam to get the shape I want.

After this comes fiberglass molding. A lot of work but in the winter there is enough time and it is going to be a lot cheaper. In adition I can make it like I want it :) As for the shape, the 480 nose is a horror movie compared to other cars fronts the angels and lines are just insane and difficult to follow. Hope I get it right.

Good for you making your own-be interesting to see it finished! Did you know though, that Lee makes them-much better quality than Volvo, but he also does Carbon Fibre ones too.

Dan :)

looking good aibast! Good to see another custom spoiler coming up! I had similar problems with design when I made mine. The 480 just has such a strange front end it's very difficult to get one shape that suits all lines, and looks good from all angles! Keep up the good work! :D

Got some on car pics to get a better look. And the side parts still need some work. They just don't work with the cars lines. Add a little work.

Look near the drivers door, what can you see there :)

I like the front look actualy. With its little curve downwards.

PS. As you can see, the car is covered in salt from the roads here.

Off-topic, you've got steel 14 inches rims now, right? Do they fit brakes with vented discs?

here it is. On the nice thick base layer of fiberglass, so it got its strength and holds it shape well.

looks good! What colour are you gunna spray it? Same as the car, or a darker green, or black even?

Gloss black is the color I'm going for. Still thinking to cut out the eggcrate and replace with mesh or not. Even sidescirts are on my mind now :) Still in a "just a tought" status.

Yeh i'm planning side skirts for summer 2007. More to improve aerodynamics and the efficiency of my diffuser than for looks, so they'll be kept very basic. I'll need to cut a hole for the side exit exhaust though!

It is just @ 159 999 and ready to turn to 160 000 :)
Just had to pull aside of the road so no one would have killed the car in a heavy snowfall. This gas station just happened to be there :)

As you can see, no front grill on :)

Now this is the final layer of fiberglass. Just need smoothing out with epoxi filler and a good layer of resin on top of that. Then comes paint.

could always replace the egg crate with a discrete aluminium mesh if you don't like it?
