Rattley Cam,what will I replace her with?

Post by catgroom » Sat Feb 03, 2007 8:41 pm

Hello!

Well,I made the rather silly mistake last year of driving back from Brasco's in Liverpool with engine oil level just below the min mark.I couldnt afford oil and fuel at this time.SO,by the time I got home, the lobe on the cam nearest to the offside was scored and car was a little rattley.

Now,soon Im to be changing my cambelt, doing valve clearances and these have never been done.I need to know if there are any cams which would be of any benefit performance wise, without wrecking my fuel consumption.
Im running std Rich Auto Mod from Vader now.

Any help appreciated but think i know the answer is no!

Steve.

The simple answer is no... Fitting a higher performace cam will just reduce the boost. If you have something that flows more air than standard then the injectors won't be able to put in enough fuel, and the ECU will back off the boost. If that didn't happen the engine could be damaged by running too lean.

You would need to have bigger injectors, and the standard turbo may well not flow the extra exhaust gas very well. It's likely to result in less performace gain than you would expect.
