Hi, Could do with bit of advice....whats the first thing i should do to get a bit more hp out of my 2.0ES, while keeping reliability?

Change air-filter to K n N maybe? Do they make air filters for these?
Cheers Andrew

Hi Andy

I had a 2.0i 440 at one time (also a B20f). Mod's just aren't there i'm afraid. I replaced my filter with an aftermarket one-it made a nice noise but i didn't really notice much difference tbh. Maybe a custom exhaust with de-cat or something...but that really is it.

I made the transition to a Turbo (480) because although there's not really that much available, there is the infamous Rich Mod which takes it from 120ish hp to 170ish hp. 2.0i's are far smoother than the 1.7T lump mind you, and deliver just the right amount of torque to make it feel like it's pulling.

There has been a 2.0 Turbo conversion, but alot of time and money went into it, so may not be your kind of thing... I expect there are quite a few more clued up than me, but i think you'll find there's not much...

Good luck anyway and welcome to the forum! Any pics of it?? :D

Use optimax or some other high octane fuel, and then drive it really fast all the time, the computer should realise you are a mentalist running on higher fuel and give you some more power. Does the ECU need to be reset first o wiser ones?

I did the above and it seemed faster.

Hehehe

I felt the same way for ages, don't forget tho 480's always break every month around pay-day and the 2.0i lump is inherently more reliable than the turbo. You could always go the superchip (google it) route.

I think its about £260 and it gives you +8HP!!! WoW!

Also its not all about HP. A lot of cars that have high hp have no tourqe and will not go up hills as fast as a 2.0i 480.

do a search of the forum, you can mod the flywheel sensor to slightly advance the ignition timing, couple that with high octane petrol and make sure all the plugs/rotor arm/dizzy cap/leads etc are top notch and thats about all you can do.
Unless you want to supercharge it?? :D

Nitros injection anyone? As with all 480 lumps they are tough as old boots, run a good shot of laughing gas might be a good idea?

Other than that there is no real off the shelf stuff :( porting the head might be a good bet, performance cams pretty much dont exist (although a re-grind by an experienced tuner might be an option), throttle bodies/carbs etc are expensive!

Best bet without sounding like a bore is get a turbo, the insurance is cheap compared to every other hot hatch I have ever owned. Plus rich mod is peanut :D
