I am so glad to see this done, your commitment to the cause is nothing short of exemplary, and the car is one of my favourite colours too, I am glad I could help in my own small way to get it back on the road. Before it goes we need an out and about shot of it!

I was giving this car a really good look over when down at Jeff's on Saturday. Having seen R3 at various intervals, yes it is a transformation and she really is looking as good as the pictures suggest

and she is spoken for - off to the safe hands of a club member once travel has been arranged
R6 will be queue jumping to be next into the sanctuary, can't have Jeff getting bored

R3 made it back from 480 central to Yorkshire with no problems,it’s longest journey in years. Big thanks to D C Walker and Jeff for their help. Amazing rust free car that requires a little love and affection it’s new life starts today.

A pleasure Norm and I'm glad you're pleased with R3. It was great travelling a huge section of the M1 in company with another 480
A little tlc to build on the excellent foundation work from Jeff and I think you'll have a good companion to your Celebration there!

I let Norm dictate the pace coming back depending of course on the traffic flow. He was understandably gentle to begin with, but I'd say overall we generally sat at around 70.
There were a few periods though where Norm overtook and gave R3 her legs; caught by the traffic a quick zoom to 80 was then required to catch him again

As D C has said took it fairly steady at first but gave it some beans now and then. Cold idle is a little erratic but hoping that will settle with use. The engine performed really well overall which suggests the low mileage(37000) is about right. My intention is to tax it from next month and use it as my daily, if it runs ok then start on all the bits that need attention. Tyres, pop ups( motor) rear lights and a general tidy up. Jeff has done a grand job so far and I hope to complete its rebirth.

Time for an update methinks. Using R3 as my daily to see how it behaves before starting to spend a bit on it. The good points first: the engine apart from a little cold idle wobble is performing well: gearbox no problems though the clutch is still a little heavy but hoping it will ease with use.: the handling especially on the 14 inch wheels is pin sharp even on tyres that are of undetermined age.The main problems so far are mostly of the electrical variety: only one pop up so currently running with them up,no heater blower, rear screen wiper only works when the wash button is pressed? , have an intermittent bulb failure light that comes and goes when brake pedal is pressed.rear lights though thanks to Jeff are serviceable will need replacing with the French lenses.various squeaks and rattles that need investigating,particularly one that appears to come from under the bonnet drivers side( a strange tinny rattle).lastly a strange thing happens when I start the car first thing, when turning the ignition all dash lights up as per normal but the engine fails to start,doesn’t even turn over but after three or four tries it fires up no problem and is fine afterwards,I think it could be ignition barrel related as the key feels loose in the barrel. All in all not too bad for a parts car that has been turned round by our resident wedge doctorJeff and I can’t thank him enough for his efforts in saving as many wedges as possible,mind you after a visit to 480 central I think the spares are taking over the house and he will be relegated to sleeping in one of the rescue cars on the drive.

Norm, remember the bulb failure light on early models covered several bulbs, not just the brake lights as on your Celeb. Could just be something slightly loose? Starting...hmmm...you could be right about the ignition. If we can organise for you to come over perhaps we can blitz a few things for you?

I know what you mean about Jeff's spares - last time we were there he'd just been and bought someone's entire stash. Sadly, some things turn out to be broken or not working. 10 out of 10 for generosity though- I gather R3s homemade rear clusters got replaced with the ones from Jeff's own car.

Yup! The original plan was to put the French lenses on R3's bases. Sadly, they're not useable. So, need to find me some more lights - It's not as if I need the car in a hurry, or it's coming out of the paintshop this week..... oh wait....
It's easy to, to forget that there's about £500 of spare parts (£1200 in DSP*) gone into R3 (and the same, if not more, into R1!) that don't get billed for. But that's the point of the rescues, its saving cars that others wouldn't because they seem a step too far. Should we add all those parts into the final bill? Well, it'd probably make the sale price unpalatable for most. So instead, my spares pile diminishes, but cars get saved. The alternative, is that I could become a parts Gollum, hoarding all these bits to sell on at eye watering costs to desperate 480 owners.

The rear wiper sounds similar to my car, It has only ever gone on when pressing the wash button or using the wipers in reverse gear, I wasn't aware there were any other functions to it
