I like big butts and I cannot lie...

Hi all, meet Ray my new 460. I would like to start a debate - ugly or not??

In the first shot, the backdrop is Victor Pasmore's 'Apollo Pavillion' - also the subject of ugly-or-not arguments for many years...

Well given that this is a 480 forum the first questions should be 'Does the boot leak?', 'What's the idle like?' and 'Does the instrument cluster work?'!
Haha!

Nice score! Personally I like the clean, simplistic lines compared with most modern cars. I'm not keen on the alloys however but that's a minor point I guess.

I also had one of these. Well it's a form of transport. It's better then public transport. And the boot is larger then that of a 480. Victor Pasmore's 'Apollo Pavillion' looks more artistic to me though.

thanks gents

boot seems to be dry, idle is terrible (not smooth and running rich, not good in an auto!), instrument cluster works :D although paint has peeled on speedo. mustn't grumble

so far have changed the MAF, ignition ECU, ICV was new anyway and appears to be working, next suspects are fuel ECU & oxy sensor...hopefully not sticky injectors

I think we could do with a better pic of the pavillion if we're going to compare and contrast.

Interesting juxtaposition both in terms of line and colour. I sure you're not allowed we could with some shots of the car closer to the pavillion.

As for the rough idle - get it terracleaned. I know you're a skeptic but it does what is says on the tin including sorting out idling problems.
Numerous mentions here http://www.terraclean.co.uk/terraclean% ... nials.html

I couldn't be happier with what it's done for my 2.0 - best £70 I've spent on it.

i'm starting to like it i think. Don't forget chassis, running gear and engine are all 480 based so i'm not being unfaithful))

thanks for the pic yorkshire, imagine having that thing sat outside yr front window lol. I couldn't get any closer. Probably the reason for this is that the council don't want us locals to park stolen cars in it and burn them out. I think my V70 throttle body needs a clean, and i did think of u and yr terracleaned 480)...maybe, maybe....but will unbolt it first and take a look

what have u got Steve? A turbo brick also?? Put a Robou ecu in it, u should see the other drivers faces when that huge a$$ starts to move.

this is how we roll in the north folks!

Nah, no turbo for me :(

Just a b18u manual, last of the liner, P reg, GSi.

Really wierd spec: elec front windows but keep fit rears, electric sunroof, WORKING aircon, remote locking, half leather, but no seat heaters?!

Oh, nice boot spoiler too ;)

Proper end of the line jobbie!!

Not bad for 200 nicker!

Hmm... Just to sort the rear arches... Where did I put that decorator's caulk?!

200 quid for a mark 2 good price. There's never been a whole lot of love for the 460 in the UK even though they are good motors IMHO. Fill the boot up and the handling is crap is has to be said

Ok James, no worries.

Think I've got a centre cap though now, just need to send him some moneys.

So... Why Ray le Otter??

Or, come to think of it, Orange Blossom Special etc?!

Ugly? No. Boring? Yes! And a turbo? Bloody rare!

I'd still have one mind!

Up until a few days ago Steve I did have a 1996 brochure for the GS Limited Edition and a different one which I forgot the name of! They basically took away some models and combined 'specs' for these, the GS is considered to be a Si plus a GLT, high spec 'sporty' models.

Ah well, even better for £200 then!!

Limited edition... Means: "Ah crap, we're not making these for much longer lads and we've all these parts left, what shall we do??"

However... Sporty it is not, being propelled by the powerhouse that is the 1.8 single point injection (Let's face it, a carb with an injector in the top!)

I do like the look of it though, it looks like a baby 850 T5 from behind!! ;)

Must get some pics up over on VOC, all I seem to do here is hijack James' threads!

lol :D

Let me guess Steve, it's Dark Green or Dark Blue?

And yeah, sounds like a good buy. I'd have one as a runaround if needed :)

Edit: The other late 'Limited Edition' model was the LE, that one was really just a badge to sell of the last of them!

Ha ha ha... You've not been paying attention Dave!

Surely you don't even need to ask... Have you not noticed a pattern??

Steve :hopping:

Oh, this one is called Rusty, on account of the arches!

a baby T5, i like that). It certainly moves like one with Robou's ecu

it's called Ray le Otter cos after driving a couple of hundred miles i stopped and switched the engine off, only to find it wouldn't start again. Opened the bonnet, it had fuel, had spark, turning over, everything. The french engine just gave me a shrug and said "f**k you, monsieur". I think that was a character in the viz or something based on the American actor Ray Liota (maybe he swore alot?). Anyway, eventually unplugged the MAF and it fired straight up)

Orange Blossom Special is a Johnny Cash song about "the fastest train on the line". I drove it at about 55 mph across most of England after collecting it, with people shouting and waving hello (i think) as they passed me

:)

more:

Columbia is named after the space ship, as it is big and silver and when I got it I expected it to go bang at high speed (it did yesterday when the expansion tank cap blew off)

Pollution is so named due to the collection of food wrappers that accumulated in the footwells, that used to jump out to meet anyone entering the car....named after the Terry Pratchett character

A couple of pics of "Rusty" on account of the rear arches...

I think it looks like a 740 Turbo and an 850 T5 got down on it, and this was the result:
