Fuel filter union parts
Hi all,
I'm still restoring my Volvo 480 1994 2.0litre and going to change the fuel filter out. The old one looks like it's been there since the start of time, really doesn't appear to have been changed often/if at all. And so that means the union fittings are almost chemically welded onto the filter itself.
My chances of getting those out are almost 0, so does anyone have a link/parts number for the union fittings so I can replace them? I have the new BFF8146 filter, but as everyone knows it doesn't come with the union fitting I need.
Take a look at them!
Thank you!
Andy

Re: Fuel filter union parts
as the filter is ally, you could just cut it open and salvage the fittings, if they will not come out of the filter

Re: Fuel filter union parts
As Alan said; the filter part is now sacrificial; I’ve managed to save much worse - give them a thorough wire wheeling to make sure they’re not pinholed.
I’ve previously made up the “out side” with fittings from pirtek; it’s all just standard fuel stuff, but the difficulty is the pipe; rigid plastic means you’ve got pretty much one change to get your new fittings in, before you’re having to cut it back and try again.

Re: Fuel filter union parts
Thought I'd add an update. Unfortunately this one thing is stopping my overall running of the car right now
I've tried to get them undone and just without luck. One side is now slightly turning, but not spinning in the union so it's twisting the pipe.
The other side just won't budge.
I'm going to cut the pipe/connectors off next and then try to find compatible components and post them since I've not yet found any definitive reference to the union size/connector sizes.

Actually,
Why don't I just do this:
Any reason not to?

Re: Fuel filter union parts
JKM did a similar thing - The big battle is joining the existing pipe, as it's nylon.
Have a read about it here

Re: Fuel filter union parts
This thing is really pushing me!
So after waiting a week to get a couple of fittings as shown above, I find the fuel filter has two sizes of fitting.
I'd bought m14x1.5 8mm as standard Bosch type fuel fittings.
One end fits the filter, the other is too large
(Suspect M12 by eye)

Re: Fuel filter union parts
Well after a few trial and error goes, I've solved the fuel filter and pipework issue.
I've done similar to what Jay-Kay-Em did in his long post that jifflemon pointed me to.
Not exactly a standard solution but it's all crimped tight and once I've fastened it back in I think this will be good for the future.
Parts I used:
Rubber fuel pipe
8mm to 8mm barbed coupler
8mm to 6mm barbed coupler (joining to existing pipes)
8mm to 8mm 90o angle coupler
hose clamp with pinch plyers (various size clamps)
Bosch fuel pump adaptor M14x1.5 8mm (fits the fuel filter)
Bosch fuel pump adaptor M12x1.5 8mm (fits the fuel filter)
Will be posting a video on Youtube at some point with more progress on my 480.
Thanks for the help all, at least this is solved.

Re: Fuel filter union parts
Hi Folks,
Similar issue with my 480 with a new Bosch Filter
Can anyone tell me what is the internal dia and thread pitch of the Volvo fuel line nut that connects to the original fuel union please?
