Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Hello 480 owners!

Yesterday, My Father and I bought a 1989 Volvo 480 ES for cheap money, and I am pretty impressed of it! Nice handling, it just stays good on the road, and the suspension is hard, but not uncomfortable. Great car with a lot of gadgets, even my brother ,who usually hates Volvo, wants a 280 turbo now...

Here are some pics, though shot in darkness and in low quality:

Sure, this car is a special piece of engineering!

As one of the 103 registered 480's in Denmark, it is truly a rare sight over here, and it sure gets a lot of attention by others in the traffic. I think this is the only 480 in my city (the 5th largest city in Denmark!)

Oh, just a quick question: Does the engine have a timing belt, or is it driven by a chain? :D

Thank you all! :hopping:

Just polished the car today, and it shines, no rust anywhere to be found, all of the electronics are working except a couple of blown lamps (That is what I call impressive for a 21 year old car!) and it has ABS and servo steering. I got a good car compared to the amount of money spend on buying the thing :D

I have been looking for a way of lacquering the rear lights, but have been unsuccessful so far... I just can't do it without the lacquer making large drops on the surface :?

Nice condition! Damn rear lights though  such a shame they all go that way. As a very temporay fix rub some oil on them...brings out the shine, although I have never tried on ones that faded. I have used old engine oil, olive oil and have heard of baby oil being used too!

Any plans for it??

Paintcoat.... It's some solution. But you can make polishing with using sandpaper. Use paper 200, then 500, next 1000 and 2000. For the finishing use polishing paste - the same as for the car paint :) Usually it gives much better result, than lacquering!
