Monday blues

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Monday blues

Post by kev » Mon Apr 26, 2010 8:01 pm

Well the sun was out feeling fine so did a couple of checks on my sons 480 before he drove back to Uni.
Then an hour later got a call saying he had broken down .Turns out she had lost all her oil and now the engine is knackered. :(
Spent a fortune getting her back to my house .Had no choice really then had to insure him on my Colt.Any way at least he is back at Uni .
So what to do with my old S ? May break her and recoup some dosh but it would be heartbreaking .She has a stainless exhaust good seats changed discs pads drop links and lots of other bits.Oh and a great registration number L480 .
Anyone got a spare 1.7 na engine ?
Ah well tomorrows another day

got a spare 2ltr engine from an M reg. Pity you are not near glasgow!

so I reckon you could fit a 2 ltr engine and all you would need would be the fuel ecu to match it and it should be a straight replacement.

Could be wrong though , there must be some engine experts left on the forum!

What caused it was sheer stupidity on my part .I topped the oil up got distracted and forgot to replace the filler cap ! Must be my age

The clutch was getting ready to be replaced and first gear was stiff .I don't know if its gearbox related or to do with the clutch but either way its more work .

Yes Jim its a shame I'm not near or I would have that engine . I'm sure something will turn up . I know I should break her but there is something telling me to fully restore her to new condition. Full respray new suspension etc .I did a lot of work on my turbo but I would like to take it one step further ,it may mean divorce though

Well I removed the sump after a lot of fiddling about and had a look at the crank etc. Removed two shell bearings and a main bearing .The main was OK but the shells were gone showing signs of wear and damage . The crank itself only showing light scoring. Shall remove the other two and if the same I will fit a new set and see what happens. :)

Good news fitted shells and put everything back together . Turned the key and all is well again ! Went for a little run and it went great . Oh when I filled back up with oil I remembered to replace the cap :D

Its all gone blue again  Engine has a slight knocking again so the crank shaft needs regrinding . I will replace the engine when funds allow. It seems the best option as I can fit a new clutch as this one is ready and maybe the gearbox as well. Oh a respray would be nice too

Love hurts, love scars, love wounds and mars
Any heart not tough nor strong enough
To take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain,
Love is like a cloud, holds a lot of rain .....
Love hurts ......
Oooh ...... love hurts.

I'm not so young, I know, but even so
I know a thing or two, I've learned from my foureighty
I've really learned a lot, really learned a lot
Love is like a flame ,it burns you when it's hot
Love hurts, love hurts

Some fools rave on happiness, blissfullness, togetherness, boringness!
Some fools fool themselves I guess
But they're not fooling me ......

love hurts, foureighty hurts

I blame myself, i've neglected him for a couple of years and now he's rebelling. :kill:

Wow Joolz where did that come from ? I see where your coming from it is a love hate relationship and I think I must be tough and break her. :(
So if anyone wants a stainless cat-back system extra gauges ,interior here is your chance .I don't know if the reg is worth keeping or selling ? L480GUD . Sad but there it is .
