Hello all,

Not posted for ages but the 480 is still going strong and looking good.
I am thinking of buying another vehicle, possibly an estate for family use and keepig the volvo as a second car, does anyone have there 480 insured as a "modern classic" or is this just a myth, I have just tried a couple on line and don't seem to be getting anything cheaper than what I have now. ot a call from one of them who ddn't think that the 480 could be insured as a classic but I'm sure I've read it somewhere on here.
If you do have classic ins, please post company names.

Cheers :)

Hi Carl!

Im pretty sure Footman James consider the 480 to already be a classic...

You could try Adrian Flux, doubt they do yet though...

Glad yer still 480ing matey!

Your best bet in these cases is to ring the companies. I've got a 1987 Manta insured with RH on a classic policy although they charged an extra premium over the 1984 Monza I had before, as the car was under 21 years old, so you may get lucky with your 480.

Thanks for that. I have had an on-line quote from footman james based on 5000 miles per year and garaged which is a little over half of what I'm paying now, so looking good. I'll have a ring round when/if I do purchase a second car.

Footman James told me the car has to be older than 12 years to qualify for future classic insurance.

Tesco are very cheap on 480's but will not inusure a modded or turbo one, i have been told.

I got a quote for my old 480 turbo from tesco, so it's worth a try. It wasn't modded though. Easy way round that one though.....just don't tell 'em  ;)

I'm with Tesco now, as they were the only company that would transfer my 2 years NCB across from my bike to the car. I had the car under Mummy's name before you see ;)
I'm only 21 and it's cost me £462, so could be worse. Last year, I couldn't insure a 480 turbo, but when I tried a few months back (after 21st birfyday) it was cheaper to insure than my 460?!?!
I phoned up and told them about the Longlife Exhaust too, but they said it didn't make a difference.
