Groomus on the case with the cluster situation!

Hello everyone!

I spoke to a fellow club member last night about the rear cluster situation.

The poor quality/ridiculous prices of rear clusters was what I agreed to address somehow!

I have just written to Hella direct.I asked them for prices per unit IF we agreed to buy a minimum of 5 sets.I didnt put this to the club first as bugger all may come of it.

Someone has told me that Volvo has the rights to sell them exclusively. Can anybody verbally verify this???

Hope to get some joy from someone on this!

Steve

I think although Hella made them volvo own the patent/copyright and therefore the right to charge whatever they want!

But, you all know how parts are only sold @ volvo for 10 yrs after the end of production, or they say they only make them for 10yrs, what prevents Hella selling after the end of the 10 "contract" ?

what would be good, is if you could fabricate them 'yourself' from a mould of some description, and make it out of a proper material, one that doesn't perish in UV light...

I think contacting Volvo on group buy's would be a good idea full stop. I did contact Volvo about rear light clusters and a group buy before....twce actually, but alas, no return correspondance!

I doubt Volvo would be interested themselves (there trying to erase the 400 series from the history books!) but a main dealer might be willing to help out with a discount. :dunno:

I don't see why then, if they're going to be like that, they wouldn't be more co-operative? Surely we'd be doing them a favour! Don't see what the problem is with Volvo...tossers!

unless you buy a 40 k car and talk with marbles in your mouth, volvo do not give a toss , really, they dont! even Sweden refuse to respond to letters, e mails etc, if they ever start building crap cars then the company will fall on its ass, as customer service is none existant and its purely the product that keeps em afloat, BUT the four letter F word own em now so give it a couple of years, they stole the engine off the t5 and the s40 chassis now they can donate shiteness in return

well, i have a good thinking about sweden volvo, i emiled them twice and always got a pozitive respond. i think i mailed directly to customer suport.
one mail was for a big S80 poster at the time the car was released and the other was for a CVT service manual for serries 3xx. got them both after a week or so, free of charge.

Nothing wrong with Ford... ;) As for Volvo I've found most of my experiences with Volvo pretty good. The dealer in Aberdeen is shit although the parts department have usually been helpful enough. I remember writing to Volvo UK several times when I was a kid and always getting a positive response. Often with lots of goodies/press releases thrown in. :D They probably show less interest now as the 400 series is no longer in production but I bet if you percivered (sp) you'd get somewhere.

Final updateus!

Whoever said they were sold strictly under licence was right, bugger!

Heres what Hella UK had to say -:
hella wrote: Dear Mr Groomus (;-))
Unfortunately we made these rear lamps for the manufacturer of the vehicle under licence. This means that they are tied to Volvo and you would have to go to them to make a purchase. We did have the ability to sell the
lenses only on the aftermarket but they have been deleted from our range
for some time.

Sorry I couldn't have been more help.

Mit freundlichen (ooer!!!) Gren / Best regards
