Arches Complete!

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

nooooooooo i want i want!!! superb looking job, how far did the re-spray have to go? easy to get a good colour match? i think that might put me off, even using the 'correct' paint i'd be fairly sure that the car will have faded over the years but yours looks top notch!

great stuff, if it comes in cheap i think you're man at the garage may have some business coming his way ;)

I am well pleased with it-it's just all happened so quickly. Friday last week my arches were non-existant....just a mass of Duct tape arch shapeness. Now, under a week later, all repaired and sprayed. It's not kinda sunk in yet-i think it's probably because the rust wasn't ever visible and within 4/5 days it's all gone. I'll just notice on next months statement

He really has made a top notch job of it. Next time i get the chance, i'll get the wheels off and get some shot's inside. It really does look like it was never done. One change i have noticed is the 'mottled' effect on the underside of the sill. He's carried it on along the inner lip of the arch, so like the sill's, the arch won't be prone to chipped paint/rust as it's now covered in that rubbery stuff. And with regards to colour matching, it wasn't that hard he told me....and you know why people? Just take a guess... 'Cos it's WHITE. Ha. I think all he had to spray was the outer part of the arch (because of the weld burn) and the about 3" of the sill, then he just blended it in. From a distance you can't really see a colour difference at all. The test will be when it's all cleaned on Friday. But it should be pretty good-he matched my Dad's Paris just by looking at it, so i guess white would have been pretty easy.

Now all she needs is a damn good clean!

Aaahhh. Rust free arches...;)

That looks spot on to me! I'd be well happy with that. I have a little rust too which i'm avoiding for now as scared of the cost of repair.... Any clues to the price of a repair job like this?

Well. The job's been priced. I can't really say how much i paid (awsome amount of family discount :D). He told me if the job was priced up like normal, it would be about £300. But that is to finish the job i started i.e. that would be the price if you ground out all the rust and everything first so all he had to do was go straight in with the welder.

I still think thats a pretty good price-thats what i had in mind to start off with, plus a little more.

:)

Nice nice nice Dan! :hopping: I bet you're really happy with it. It looks like an excellent job.

I really like the idea that so many 480 owners want to get this done and not just let their cars fade away.

It's quite scary really, now you say that. Me and my Dad were trying to figure out a price based on what work we'd had done at the garage over the years. We thought about £200 a side max, so i thought i was looking at about £400...i didn't bat an eyelid, i was straight on the phone and booking it in. 'Oh well, i'll get the money somehow". And that was it, repair the 480, bill me later

It doesn't bother me, and wouldn't have bothered me spending that much money-it's for essentially my hobby, so it was worth it. Even if it is white. Ha!

Still not sunk in really-but i can't hide that big childish grin when i walk past it. She know's it, and she know's she's worth it too. I still think that these car's have souls deep down... :o

Yeah, it becomes more than a machine, through your synergy with it. :hopping:

I haven't driven mine since wednesday and probably won't get it back for a few days yet. I'm eager to see what it feels like again.

Good thinking mate!
