electric Headlight adjusting

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Post by 1852 » Fri Mar 31, 2006 11:39 am

I'm looking for eletric headlight adjusters. I've seen them on pics in Toby's car. I looked in serveral cars but never finded one. In with type/year of 480 are they installed?

Don't think they are electric. I thought they were a crappy hydraulic system that messes up very easily and costs loads to get fixed! I do remember reading about how you can fit the system off a volkswagen *golf*(not sure 100% on model but it was a VW) and it is a little less crappy!

We don't get them over here though so i dont know quite how they work exactly.

the electric adjusters from golf ii will fit without problems to the 440 and 460 series.
i dont know if they will fit on a 480 because of the popup mechanism. i already have two of them and wil try to install them soon, will post the results whether it worked or not.
additionally you will need a switch to control the adjusters (i will controll them from the carpc :) )

Yes, their crappy.

I also own a 480 with the headlight adjusting system, but was never in the situation of seeing it work.
Don't try to take the system apart because you will end up with a nasty short cut in you electrical system because of the oil/liquid pouring over the seat warming buttons beneath it.

I bought the car and found out that the previous owner had this experience.

Well, I'll leave it this way, I don't mind the system not working.

When I bought mine both sides worked. Now only one side still works and I expect it to fail on me any day now ;)

It was a requirement in Germany, I don't believe any other country ever used it...
