Young 480 Drivers

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

im 18 and im on my second 480 (and no i didn't crash the first one! ), love them loads, and they're way better than all my friends cars! i don't understand why parents buy their kids £2000 worth of clio, or saxo or whatever, when for £120 you can have a car that is faster, safer, better handling and better looking?!?!?!??!

i'd never wana a clio (unless it was a cliosport v6)
much rather spend a few hundred quid on a 480 and have the rest to make it look nice and tidy!

Im now 25 years old. My first car was a 1985 volkswagen beetle with the roof chopped off. Second car was a 1972 beetle, third a renault 19. Last month I went out to look for a clio, but stumbled on what now is my first 480 ES from 1988, a nice little grey one sitting on the back of the car lot. So far so good. I'm loving it.
shit happens, all of the time and all over the world.

Holy cow, am I the oldest here?
38 now, had my first 480 at 35, which was my third (own) Volvo.
I always wanted one, ever since it had been launched. I'm planning to keep this one until it becomes old timer, also planning to get another ones to restore them. Who knows...

Yup - 21 and had my 480 since I was 19!
Before then I had the keys to my dad's 440, then a temporary glitch with a VW beetle, an then back to volvo for a 340GLE.
My friends, how they laughed and ridiculed me for my mental volvo obsession...

Then I got the 480GT - laughs are now smiles of quiet respect for the greatest car, by far, amongst us!
mwah ha ha :)

I'm 18 and have just purchased a 480. Not insuring it for a while though as need to do quite a bit of work on it to get it through an MOT!(anyone know anywhere that welds arches chaeply? lol) I'm gonna be driving my renault 5, 1.1 til then however lol. It's not a bad little car and is loved by my friends it's just i keep getting overtaken by people carriers...*Vows to put every spare penny and all free time into fixing 480...must not be beaten by people carriers in races...lol* :D

Hey, guys and girls, I'm 48 and finally got round to buying my first 480 this year (kids now grown up and got their own cars!)
Bought a '95 480s and then found an absolutely mint Celebration with 31k on the clock since new. I have always liked the shape but totally imporactical when the family were growing up; now it's a great feeling to drive such a beautiful car.
Black 480s will be up for sale soon when I can get the photos done; no room for both of them! To be sold with or without p/plate L14B0S (480S).

That's better, I was beginning to feel quite an ancient 40. Have you noticed the older we get the better our grammar and spelling? :)

This is my first Volvo. I bought it as a joke three years ago from an auction, and now wouldn't part with it. It's added to the grey hairs, cost me a small fortune and doesn't have enough seats - I have three kids. But, as I said, wouldn't part with it voluntarily.

Started off with a Ford Fiesta mark 2, which my dad and i rebuilt the engine on, then another which i bought for £300 then i sold for £400 because i looked after it so well. Then the Volvo Virus kicked in with firstly a 460 then a 440 turbo at the age of 20 (insurance £1300). And for the last year and a half the 480 turbo,Shamir.

I was 25 when I drove the first 480 of my brother, after a few months I could buy one myself

Loved the car from the first moment I saw here in 1987 in my hometown :hopping:
Growe up with volvo's. My father had, in my young years, 3 340's
I bought my 1995 480 by the same dealers where my brother bought his 1995 480 and where my dad bought his volvo's

Volvo's in the family at the moment:
