480 spotting

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

480 spotting

Post by MGB_GT » Mon Mar 14, 2005 11:13 am

It's been a good weekend for spotting 480's, wish I could say the same for the car :(. Went out on Saturday and she wouldn't start, in fact she had no electricity at all :'( After an hour and a half in the cold car my mate finally came to the rescue with a set of jump leads. A quick test of the battery and £54 later and she was back to normal (so I thought). The Muppet who replaced the battery over tightened the positive connecter and spilt it. He also didn't say anything. Got two minutes down the road before she conked out on me on a hill. A bit of Electrical Insulation tape later and she's holding, waiting for the manager to call back, but I am pissed.

On the bright side, there are two GT's I've seen this weekend. Both red with S/E leather and wheels. One was in Brislington on M plate, the other (looking a little battered) was in Bath this morning as I drove past on an L plate. Being that a friend of mine is very interested in a Green GT like mine he's seen for sale, that would make four of them near me! For a rare car this would be a little odd. Must make them both aware of the forums methinks, unless anyone wishes to admit ownership here?

Also saw another two ES's over the weekend driving about, a nasty faded Red F plate (sorry if it's yours but it needs a respray) and another Silver one driving about. It's really odd to see so many in such a short period, so for two weekends running I know I'm not the only one who likes 480’s, I am feeling much less sad than usual :D

Know how you feel. I went out of my way to park next to a lovely green GT on an M plate in the sports centre in Chichester last week, came back to the car later to find a black G (?) reg ES on the other side!

I saw a L reg GT in Bristol, who was following behind me near three lamps junction in bristol. Had those nice wire mesh sort of alloys I think. I think it was last thursday, or maybe one before that.

I saw a white 480 on Sunday at about 13:00 on TCR in central London - didnt see what variety - and unfortunately it was moving, else I would have "carded" it ...

I have seen a couple of 480's around the Taunton area. A Black 480 ES in town. Can't remember the number plate but looked really nice condition apart from a scrape on the rear bumper! There is also a red ES near my house in the blackbrook area. J reg, looks to be in ok condition aswell - i drive past it purposely hopeing it will go up for sale one of these days! Not being able to find a nice 480 is really annoying me now! All the ones I enquire about have knackered clutches or the info centers don't work! Any way i am rambling on!!! If either of these belong to you say hello!

Cheers, Rob

OMG!!!! I have just been out to pick my mum up from work and have seen 2 more!! A white L reg ES looking like its got a couple of patches of rust on the arches and then minutes later a grey ES drives past! Funny how i havent seen any around Taunton really and then when i get interested i see loads! Also forgot to mention in my earlier post i saw a black turbo on the A38. It was a few cars ahead so i decided to see if i could catch up with it but as i was driving my G/f's nissan micra, didnt have much of a chance!
Would be interesting if any of the cars mentioned were owned by forum members!

Cheers, Rob

I was in Leith some time ago...saw a flame red collection parked in the old centre, in very good condition (but parked with the front spoiler on the pavement...)
A little further on (towards the royal yacht) I saw a ('86-'88) red ES

Saw a lovely metallic blue 2.0i ES on an L plate today, coming out of Tescos in Chichester. Lovely that is until it turned left and I saw the crumpled side. Ouch!

I've seen quite a few around Blackpool.
There's my Paris Blue 2.0l ES (which I see all the time...oddly! ) a white Mreg one and a two tone one. I'm pretty sure there's a black or grey one that I've caught a fleeting glimpse of too.

They're still not as common as the missus's car tho. She's just got a Ford StreetKa and there's f**king loads of them around here. :kill:

Right now Steenbergen NB in Holland is the place to be for 480-spotting:

-Paris blue S 2.0 '95 (mine)
-White Turbo '89 (mine)
-Red ES '87 (mine too... heheh..)
-White ES '93
-Red Es '95
-Graphite grey Turbo '89

and when my sister is visiting: either a Red ES '88 / green S 2.0 '95

And there's a green ES ('93-'95) around sometimes...

There is one in a drive way I see in Wrexham, may post a card through the door sometime as I think it would look a little dodgy me fiddling about with the windscreen wiper in front of the window
