I know theres a 480 pic thread but heres the 440!

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

There are a number of mechanical devices which increase sexual arousal, particularly in women. Chief among these is the Volvo 480 ;)

Having your number plate on show wouldn't allow someone to work out where you were. More likely is they read a street sign in the back ground and worked it out that way.

Nevertheless, a 440 turbo looks like a right hoot. Although it doesn't look like the Italian sports car is giving it much beans. :P

I like the plates. You have snails on them? ;)

I like Taurus alloys too :)

I like this model of Volvo :) Looks nice, but you must do something with different color of the right panel.

Right wing is the only panel on the car that hasnt faded, the sunlight hasnt been kind to the 235 red paint.

i think that wing has been resprayed in the past and hasnt faded the same as the rest of the car.

The car is as clean as it can get in those pics, treated to :- going over whole car with rubbing compound, then auto glym paint restorer, and finaly polished twice with auto glym super resin.

My 440 was a 1.8SE, in the very dark red/maroon colour. Was fairly tidy except for one arch...

I've owned a 440 too. Sold it because the rear arches and the underside of all the four doors were rusted badly. Decided not to spend any money on getting the rust repaired and got myself a 480. Never regretted that decision :)

Rear arches seem to be the weak point on all the 400 series cars. but at least i havent got a CEM to go wrong!

In my current 480 I find it worth the money to have the arches repaired. In the above 440 not. That was because it was the most basic edition without any luxury except powersteering and it had the B18U engine. Next to that, also all the four doors needed welding or replacing. I agree that if you have a well equiped and maintained 440 with only the arches gone, it is worth the repair.

hence, as of next week im enrolled on a basic welding course at my local college, so that i can get the body work sorted. just need to find some one who can do a respray at a decent cost.

i would love to know what kind of welder to use.my arches are crapped out at the bottoms.i have a stick welder but these things are better for cutting car metal.also used to own a cheap mig but wouldnt risk it.maybe it was just a crap welder.only one feed wheel which would slip.

Ill be learning on a mig welder, but have the use of the one at work (ill be the only welder for the company).

Im quite suprised that no one has yet commented on the front splitter on the car. must of done a dam good job fitting it if no-one notices it!!

It's not a volvo spliter, the 440 never got given one, so with a bit of research i found out the splitter from a renault laguna was a near perfect fit. And it works, keeps the front end down a bit better, the stearing was very light at motorway speeds, now it's perfect!
