How much polishing....

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

How much polishing....

Post by Jimmy » Wed Oct 01, 2008 9:44 am

....is too much polishing?

How often do you all polish and wax your cars? Just wondering really, as I only tend to polish mine 2 or 3 times a year as I have a paranoia about taking all the paint off!!

This is too much polishing.

I am afraid I'm a sinful and have only washed my car three times since I bought it. Nearly a year ago.

Be very carefull with polishing, only needed if the lacquer is really weathered. Every time you polish you take away a small layer of the lacquer. Waxing twice a year, polishing only when waxing isn't enough. Better try a clay bar first if waxing doesn't do the trick.

Being a sad looser, and to save a trip to the gym, Lula gets at least a wash 'n' wax every sunday with some of that new turtle wax ICE-which I am loving. If, after having to deal with those damn GT wheels+brake dust I still have energy then I do the leather seats, carpet, trim etc etc, but outside comes first as that sees the most crud!!

I have got to be honest, I have been quite impressed! Mostly as I no longer get any white lines in the awkward features such as the bonnet rubbers, the vented slats in the bonnet, the bump strips and my decals! Its also good as I can use it on the black trim-the b post pillars and the number plate plinth etc (where as I was using some tyre gel on a cloth-now thats only used on the tyres and mudflaps!!)

I got the kit, so i got the ICE, the application sponge and the microfibre cloth. It says to apply with the sponge, remove with the microfibre cloth, fold it over, then finish polish with a clean part of the cloth. In reality tho I have bought another cloth so that my finishing off cloth is perfectly clean to produce the ultimate shine.

Its super quick in comparison as well. Without a doubt I rate AutoGlym products (due to my Jag fetish no doubt!) but until Autoglym produce a white mark-less polish I will be using the ICE indefinately!!

Hope that helps! ;)
