New model of the 480

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

New model of the 480

Post by Mike » Thu Jul 26, 2007 8:23 pm

For those who collect 1/43 models, I have just seen that Minichamps have reissued their black 480ES, now in red.
I don't know how to add links here, but you can view it at alpimodels.com. which is an Italian modelshop that I have used in the past. The model ref number is 400171521, priced at 31 euros.

Yep, that's the one.
They describe it as an ES, but with colour coded bumpers, should it really be a Turbo?

if it has a front bottom spoiler, than it's a turbo.

My ES has colour coded bumpers. Maybe they took their inspiration from one of the many ES's i've seen that has an had a spoiler retro-fitted..?

I agree the later ES had colour-coded bumpers, but this is supposed to be an early car, and I believe pre-1990 ish they would have been black on ESs, and colour coded on Turbos, hence my comment.

Everything was a factory option in any case. I'm pretty certain however even if it was a Turbo that this car would not be quicker than it's ES counterpart :hopping:

We had an e-plated (1987?) ES that had colour coded bumpers, it didn't have the spoiler though. I really think trying to work out what each model should have had spec wise is a waste of time, as every example seems different. Has anyone got a brochure that lists the standard features? I had thought that colour coded bumpers were standard on the ES, untill we got Jayne's last one and that didn't have them. It only had the thin rubber strips on the side as well, not the chunky ones. Strangely enough, the steel grey S we owned had colour coded bumpers, and thick rubber mouldings.

I just saw this model. Pretty cool, although unless I'm bought it as a gift I probably won't go out of my way to buy it! :( It just a money maker and I don’t plan on giving them the benefit of the doubt!

All Minichamps have done is change the colour of the original black model, which is quite a disappointment, in particular for enthusiasts, in my opinion. If the company had did their research properly, instead of reissuing, they could have made a little more of an effort and produced a much desired Celebration, a slick GT or even a colourful Paris blue LE or two-tone.. Hell, they could of give us a convertible!

Colour coded bumpers were a dealer option.
Although in most countries the S had colour coded bumpers from the factory...
