Insurance

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Insurance

Post by David Thornber » Wed Feb 19, 2003 3:54 pm

It's that time of year... Any recommendations of insurance companies. My quote is around £320 for a 1.7turbo, I'm 34 with max no claims. Limited mileage of 2000miles, and a high excess on any claims. I'm currently with Norwich union.

I'd say "stick with NU" - my broker was the second best quote I got from about 11 companies, and it's a NU policy (although NU refused to insure me when I phoned them direct - what an odd world)

1995 480 Turbo, Flame Red Metallic, Jacquard/Leather

My circumstances are very similar to yours David (I'm three years younger but probably no better looking <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> )

I'm insured through NU Direct as well for about that much (can't tell exactly without looking) Excess of £120.

I don't have a mileage restriction - did they bracket your car as a classic?

No it's not bracketed as a classic, the restriction is a hangover from the spitfire I had insured until recently. Also the car doesn't do much mileage as I also have a company mondeo turbo (oh yeh 1.8 diesel...yawn). Might take the mileage restriction off just to see what difference it makes.

Ha! You should try being 21. I pay £750 Third party fire and theft <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:"> , with a £200 excess. I do about 18000 miles a year in my 1.7 ES. This is with Norwich Union, and again they wouldn't insure me when i phoned them direct. I long for the days when i get quoted £320! Now I've had my whinge, Norwich Union do seem to offer the best deals.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> Cheers

Tesco were OK, they were the 3rd cheapest for me, but they were 150 quid more expensive than the broker I went with, which landed me the NU policy...

1995 480 Turbo, Flame Red Metallic, Jacquard/Leather

When I was 18 my First 480 ES cost me my Mark 2 Fiesta 1.1 Popular Plus to insure. I.e £850 (what i sold it for)

But then again that was in 98. No chance you'd get that much for a Mark 2 Festa these days <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> .

For god's sake! I take it these criminal quotes are for Fully Comp? If so don't bother - why pay more than the car's worth when you could just buy another with the money you've saved when you trash it and then buy the wreck back for peanuts and flog it for spares. I rolled over 31 a couple of days ago and can quite honestly say that I've always had fast cars (but never had fully comp until I got my slow Spitfire) and the insurance was never more than £500, usually £3-400. It doesn't get much cheaper until the big 30. Then they just find more reasons even if you live in the sticks and have 8 years NCB. Bastards. Kill them all....<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:">
