480 Security Warning!!!

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

480 Security Warning!!!

Post by Dog egg » Fri Jan 10, 2003 6:45 pm

Went out to my Turbo Wedge on Christmas Morning to find the small door window on the driver's side had been levered out! It appears the scumbags had used a screw driver to lever the glass out by levering between the rubber surround gromit and the metal of the door. This removed the glass complete presumably to prevent noise and so that it could be replaced later so as not to arouse suspicion from the Plod... The car was empty and obvious with it so it must have been an attempted theft. Luckily, as you know, the built in alarm triggered the horn when the pondlife used the internal handle to open the door... Fortunately this was enough to scare them off and the window was intact so I had a very cold drive home and then got busy with the soapy water and superglue. So the moral of the story? Fit a Radar alarm!!! From Maplins they cost about £130 and use a microwave sensor to detect when anyone gets within 1-3ft of the car glass. This emits a beep from a Piezzo buzzer. Then the alarm can be triggered fully if the usual methods are used; knock, entry etc. The idea is that it lets lowlifes know that the car IS alarmed and not just an LED. I've never been bothered when using this alarm on my cars in London, so it must be good. If anyone wants advice on fitting and location of the microwave sensor then email me! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)">
