Why are there negative comments about white car colour?

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Must have missed something as have trolled about the forum but can't find why you peeps don't like white.
So what's up? Too hard to match with touch-ups, repaints?
Clue me in please.
Cheers.

There are a few 'white' debates on the forum somewhere. It is each to their own and I'm a fan of white as I think the lines of the 480 are complemented by it but others aren't so keen. Personally I'm not keen on flame red 480's but like i say its a matter of opinion.
White 480's look at their best when they are either new or Dans 480. :D Any rust is visible instantly as is dirt or general unpolished-ness on a white car.

White is fairly easy to re-touch as it is a matte colour. However it is hard to keep clean and the smallest amount of dirt makes it look old and cheap. But if it's well maintained like Roo's it looks awesome

I think it's just a bit of friendly banter really and i suppose it's all down to personal taste! Personally a white 480 wouldn't be my last choice!

100%! :volvo:

I hate all silver and white cars, but must admit a white 480 is very, very smart looking. I certainly wouldn't turn one down anyway! Somebody should produce some vinly rear arch skirt replacements as they can make a 480 look pretty cheap once they begin to fade to yellow!

Then again, thats coming from somebody who owns a white, and a silver Mini. (Certainly not by choice, however!)

Hey Tripper, hows it going out there?!

I must confess to being somewhat guilty of kicking off of this white-hating thing a few years back on here.I know folks dont find them the most desireable colour anyway generally though.

I was going from owning a once nice black Turbo to a really low mileage white one.I moaned and moaned about the whiteness. In the 80s a lot of people in the UK had white Porsche 944s,white MR2s and white 480s and others, like Escorts!

Also, theres the gay thing I think!Y'know, driving a hite car being a bit gay.I think also that in the 80s the Essex ladies seemed to drive white colour coded cars a lot.So I kinda felt I was going back in time and driving the same car but with a more dated and piss-takeable factor about it.

I kinda grew to like it,.you can write silly comments on it when its alll dirrrty, such as I wish my Wife was this dirty etc

Steve. :hopping:

Thanks for the replies. Believe me, a white car is a real bonus in NZ. My other Silver Grey 480, along with wifes red mx5 get so bloody hot during spring/summer. White is cool(er). Don't think white has been associated to the gay's here, though the little MX5's sure have.
Cheers.

I love the 1995 'White Satin' - it's a metallic white I believe and looks awesome!

I think it's just a bit of banter too, although they can leave you feeling like you have an inferior car, or that people are judging it all the while.

I've never seen the 'gay' issue personally, i think that just boils down to personal opinion. I do agree however, it is very very difficult to keep a white 480 clean though. I washed mine yesterday, went out in the vening and now it needs another rinse, but it's all part and parcel, i don't mind. I think having it in white has done it a favour-i'm more concious of keeping it clean and looking after it as i know a poorly kept white car can look shite.

Even a review in Practical Classics said that it was one of the few car's that looked good in White. I think it pull's it off because of the contrasting black trim/lights/tailgate etc-makes it look very striking, imo.

I was never really looking for a white one, and even my Dad commented when i told him i'd seen a white one because he knew i'd already said i didn't want it that colour. It was too good to pass up though, and i don't regret it at all...it is just very hard work keeping it clean!
