funny vibration from windscreen at 70 mph

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

funny vibration from windscreen at 70 mph

Post by k999ste » Tue Jan 30, 2007 8:16 am

I have experienced this twice now in two different 480's as i hit the 70 mark the front of the car sounds like a man is under thebonnet with a hammer drill, i put the wipers on and it goes quieter and if i put the lights up it stops.

It is clearly down to the wind vibrating on something, just dont know if its the scuttle panel or the wipers, has anyone else had this before?

It'll be the scuttle panel. I've had this on both my 480's. Most likely on the passenger side.

Yeh it's the scuttle panel, get some black duck tape and that should help! Give that a test, and if not you may need some of those windscreen wiper air deflectors.

I just fixed this problem.

My 480 did exactly this at 70 mph.

the vibration was so loud i couldnt hear my stereo. The plasic strip that sits just below the windscreen on the outside of the car has 6 plastic fixings in it. They hold the panel tight, but corrode over time. 60p each from volvo, change them and the problem goes away. and no ugly ducktape.

Indeed it is the panel underneath the windsceen.
Some bilateral (don't know if this is the right term) tape and put this on the underside al around the edges.
Worked perfectly for me. Tested it up to 180 kmph ;-).
