Removing sidemarker lights at the back

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Removing sidemarker lights at the back

Post by Williewammes » Fri Mar 17, 2006 4:10 pm

Hi guys,

Short question. Can anybody tell me what's the best way of removing the light unit wich is at the back of the car on the side just below the side windows?

Want to see if i can put light's in them, but don't want to take half the car of and discover that there's an easy way.

Would be nice if someone replied.

Thanks in advance
Greets,

HEY,

Just got myself some daytime running lights on the back of my 480.
Looks nice, but....... There's a side effect.

When the lights are on there's the light defect controll light that is on the whole time. The system probably doesn't accept the new lights.

Does anybody know what to do about this? Maybe resetting the computer??

thanks

Nope resetting the computer won't do owt!

I'm pretty sure they're measured on the resistance in the circuit (so when a bulb blow the resistance changes activating the warning light)
Putting extra bulbs into the circuit also changes the resistance so thus also activates the warning light.

EASY FIX: remove the bulb from the dash display - this is what ive done!

Or if u feel like a big job... u could wire then to the front day-runners as they are on a different circuit unconnected to the warning light, but its hardly worth all the extra trouble if you ask me!

:D

Hi. I had this problem when I wired up my rear side marker lights. My solution was to rewire them instead to the rear number plate lights - their wiring is easy to get (at the top in the spare wheel well) and those lights aren't covered by the bulb failure warning system - which still works as it should!

It is driving me mad.......

Well, time to go to work again :?

Totally brilliant. It works, no more anoying lights on the dash exept for the normal ones. :hopping:

Now, lets hope that the speedo will keep working :?

Thanks again :D

another solution:

the "check brocken lamp" unit only compares the resistance between two sides of the car.
so if you connect the sidemarkers symmetrical, the unit wont see any errors. plus you will be informed if a sidemarker bulb is broken :)

Brilliant! So this is why I never had this problem with the 'broken-light warninglight' :D
