Moist / Water in Trunk/Boot

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Moist / Water in Trunk/Boot

Post by andreas_markussen » Sun Apr 19, 2009 7:53 pm

Hi All,

In my 480 GT from 1995 is out of rust and in good and original condition, but I am havving issues with Moist/water in my trunk/boot.

I think that it comes from the holes in chassis below the Boot-mat/carpet.

Has anyone the same issue?

When it has been really rainy, then the mat has sucked up 2-3 liters of watter, and poses a rust risk to my car.

br,

Check the seal of rear clusters and rear side pane.

Where is the rear clusters and rear side pane? Inside the trunk? Or below the car?

Thanks in advance,

Rearclusters=backlights. Remove them and put some non hardening sealant (no sillicone as that can promote rust) between the backlights and the body. That is the most notourious place where water enters. If you do a search on rear clusters or backlights you can find all the info you need.

Agreed.

My 480 leaks like a sieve. The water is coming in through the rear side windows mainly.

It's a 30 second job to get the windows popped out but I ain't too sure about sealing them and getting them back in.

Tips anyone??

Is it that easy to get the windows out? And to get them in again? I'm planning having the car resprayed and I want to remove as much as possible to improve the result.

Rear windows are sticked for car body. If you dismantle the pane, you must use special glue to reinstall this.

Thanks for the advice chaps,

The last windows I took out were on the scrapper that I was dismantling.

I will take your advice Jim, thanks for that. I notice though that on one side the window rubber appears to have come away from the car. Shall I just fill it with sealant??

Sealant it is!

I am going to gun in a tube of sealant on the two windows. I'll let you all know what happens.

I want to avoid removing the panes cos even if they go back ok they may not seat in any better than now.
