replacing springs to lower 30-40 mm, does handling improve ?

Springs, shock absorbers, wheels. Questions about this can be asked in this category.

replacing springs to lower 30-40 mm, does handling improve ?

Post by alkurtz » Sat Mar 19, 2005 7:13 pm

Am trying to keep the standard look of my 480. Just want to lower it on standard wheels, to keep the 'original look', but would like to think i will benefit on cornering and feedback whilst driving.
Don't want to purchase some springs , fit them and inherit a world of pain.
Can anyone offer some advice on an experienced basis?
Is it worth my while fitting lowering springs alone ?

if you fit lowring springs then you are best advised to replace teh shocks too, as the lower/harder springs put a lot more stress on shocks, and if they are already tired then they will last no time at all.

Motorway bridges and potholes will knock your arse through your head, and it will exaserbate any rattles the car already has.

Its worth it though!

Right ,, thanks .. not entirely sure what to do still .
As i said don't want to create problems for myself cos , I've been running the car for a year and had no problems.( well happy !) Don't want parts to start giving out in symapthy..in a cheapsakate attempt at improving handling.
was thinking of replacing my arches with some of DBS's replacements getting some of the scruffy cormers touched up , buffing up the paintwork, lowering her ride jsut enough, and spacering the wheels and enjoying the summer.. But as always don't want to speand too much £

Was just weighing up weather spending an extra £100 will improve my enjoyment.

lower the car by 40mm on standard 15" alloys and it's fine (i think) add 17" alloys and it's a lot harder ride.

Hmmm! sounds logical ...

bigger rims = lower profile tyres ( even harder ride)
That has put my mind at ease ... running atlas 14s , which i have just bought tyres for , so am planning on holding onto.

Will probably try out when i find a bit of spare cash.

Saw a thread , about 30mm lowering springs.
Don't suppose you know who the retailer is?
Cheers
