Front and Rear shocks

Post by MatBat » Sat Mar 06, 2004 12:55 pm

Any recomendations? I need a complete set. I assume the rear are not sided, but the fronts? Advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks

They are not sided and are the same for 480/440/460 - usual advice applies - if you are lowering, you probably want to uprate the shocks a little as standards will wear a lot quicker under the extra effort. Koni reds are meant to be a direct replacement to standards, but come with a lifetime guarantee, so I assume by that that they expect them to last longer than standards? Other than that, there's uprated shocks from Blisten (sp?), that someone on here (Ben Harris or Chris1roll) has which aren't too expensive, going up to Koni Yellows at about £100/corner...

As with most real performance mods, you pays yer money and takes yer choice...

That would be me with the Bilsteins - and very pleased with them too. I also intend to buy a set for my other 480 at some point soon, although no lowering springs on this one.

They came from EuroCarParts:
625660125 BILSTEIN FRONT STRUT £29.95
625660015 BILSTEIN REAR SHOCK £17.99

I'd also recomend replacing the top shock mounts whilst you're at it (or at least making sure yours are still in very good condition). I was recomended to, but Volvo couldn't supply the parts at the time I needed to replace the shocks (for MOT). Subsequently, my 480 has since developed a horrible knocking from the front suspension because the uprated shocks and springs have killed off my already worn top suspension mounts. I now need to take it all apart again and replace the top mounts (which I now have ready and waiting for me to get round to it).

I bought Monroe Sensatracs 2 years ago, there not cheap, but I was impressed by the road handling. I lived in the mountains of southern france at that time, and believe me it was perfect on the small roads and dangerous corners.
I'm still using the same set for almost 50000 km, no problem

BILSTEIN FRONT STRUT
With my Pi 40mm springs I found that the springs moved!!! I remember being told that I needed uprated springs.

SM shocks?

Shockabsorders I start to believe are partly a taste.
If I change them I only change to Koni´s.
Now we have 2 480´s both on Koni laodajusters.
