Painting Calipers

Post by Brasco » Wed Feb 02, 2005 11:44 pm

Bought some caliper paint... and spend about an hour and a half scrubbing the rust off one of my calipers.... something tells me this isn't going to be a short job.
If anyone has experience with this and has any advice that would be really cool! :)

Cheers!

It takes Ages!!

wire brush attatchment on a electric drill, but wear a mask!

the paint i used took 30 mins between coats, and a good half hour to coat each caliper, and needed at least 4 coats.....

Krust jelly

Post by felyx » Thu Feb 03, 2005 7:57 pm

Brasc0 if you can't get all the ingrained rust off use some stuff called "KRUST" in jelly form you can get from halfords for £7.49 and it will oxidise the rust into dark primer!!! also if you got some ultra high temperature exuaghst spary (in spray can) about £8 you could use the white as a base primer and you will get great results , but as chris said the wire spinning thing for your drill will help a lot get the flat circular one with wire on the edges about £8 from B+Q but if there is no loose rust left the KRUST will deal with it. lets have b4 and after picks of your calipers when your done??

cheers Felyx
140mph for £175 just test the brakes

I just took calipers off the brake system .. then a bit with wirebrush to get most of dirt off.. then with wirebrush attached to electric engine that was bolted on table cleaned till it was almost shining...

then 3 coats of paint and was done...

It took one evening and few hours of night

Just scored some Cetus on Ebay! :hopping:

Cheered me up after the miserable morning I had.

Anyone thinking of changing to alloys, I've got some curbed-to-buggery TSW's going cheap (wasn't me btw!)
