16" Rims and scrubbage
Hi all,
I'm hoping to lay my hands on some 16" rims for my car, but I want to make sure that this will be OK, I don't want to have to tinker with suspension just yet or get any rubbing/banging/vibrating/<insert own annoying & vaguely sexual verb here>/ problems.
I'm gonna keep an eye out for the genuine volvo 16"... but I'm guessing I'm not the only one there... in the mean time, is there any advice as to what sort of rims would be suitable and what I should look out for?
Thanks!

eh, i dont think you will get original volvo wheels in 16" cos they never made them.
16's will be fine if you get tyres with a low profile and make sure that the rolling radius of the wheel remains the same, if the arent ridiculously wide they prob wont rub

Oops
Ah.... my bad, got it into my head that Cetus were 16" for some reason....
(probably because the car of the month has managed to shoehorn some 17" rims on - good work dood!)
I light of that fact, I may just go for 15's....
Thanks.

Got any pix Groomus?
16" do seem to be the acceptable boundary between size and scrubbage probs- i do think 15" wheels look slightly undersized on the 480.
They are an awkward size though- ever noticed when looking for alloys that there are loads of 15" and 17", but far fewer 16".
Anyway, aren't Taurus 6.5J? Think 7J is ok but would go no further!

Ive always liked these alloys,in fact Ive never seen a set of rims made by Speedline that I dont like!!!!!Same as with any Cromodora alloys.
JT says they'll fit with plenty of evidence to back that up now.So its a case of win then restore, then shod them with some yummy Toyos!

Now then,Ive fucked this up !
MHUK tells me its fuck all to do with wheel diameter, its the width that is going to cause a scrubbing problem (and there was me thinking he was mainly an authority on Milfing!).
So Rohan or anyone else Im not soooo sure Im going to be bidding now after all.
Cant be doing with changing my tyres that often!

Thats not true as the diameter of the wheel and tyre will effect scrubage ontop of the arch if the diameter is too big.
You can scrub from different parts of wheel arch depending on both width and diameter.
Anyhow you can run 16" on 205 tyres and get no scrubbage on a Turbo.
When i sold my rims to Ed he got some scrubage on his ES (we couldn't work out why!).

It's not the wheel J that increases the diameter it's the choice of tyre width size. As a J wheel accepts a range of tyre size choosing the correct one is importantmartinholmesuk wrote:I said it's 17" with a 40 profile then it's the same as 15" with whatever profile there meant to have or at least how I see it.
Width is a big prob more so I feel.
205 with 40 profile in 17 inches is 23.5 inches in diameter
215 with 40 profile in 17 inches is 23.8 inches in diameter
225 with 40 profile in 17 inches is 24.1 inches in diameter
So you see that the tyre width can effect the scrubage ontop of the arch whilst the wheel J size hasn't changed.
Use a tyre calculater to see what i mean
