Locking Wheel Nuts (or Bolts, technically)

Post by Ben Harris » Thu Oct 07, 2004 7:01 pm

Does anyone know the exact size are needed for Standard Volvo wheels? There seem to be so may different types available!

Also, do I want "Cone Seat", or "Radius Seat"?

Anyone know?

I was looking to get some of these, if it helps:

one advise : never use the one with three pinns in em.
the other day , driving at night (3.30 am)from going out in belgium to going out in NL, i took a curve too tight and killed a new tyre. damn square roundabouts in belgium with the un lighted sharp cornerstones
on top of that, the pinns broke out of the special key for the anti theft bolts.

so never, never buy "still bull" or the likes of it.

garagists will use the compressed air wrench with them, and as they have to be tight the pinns will brake in an unwanted event like mine

(by the way : i made the day ok, still gone where i planned thanks to my good friends :) )

i had to user all tricks in the blacksmiths old tricksbook, using mainly a small chissel and a special socket

back top topic :

any carparts hardware store wil be able to help you. they have all the documentation to find the right one.
If i am not mistaken it will be the conical type, not the sort of "ball shaped" Knowing radiusses and cone angles can difer a lot, i would advise to seek professional advise: If its to expensive you can always say you think about it, remembring the type and brand, and look for that in the net.
luck,
JPF

Thanks VolvoFox - I think I'll head into town and see what they've got tomorrow, or at the weekend.

I read an interesting article (here) which rates the "McGard Ultra" locking nuts/bolts very highly, so I think I'll try and get a set of them. I've seen the 3-hole type you mentioned before (had them on my mini), I can easily see how they could become damaged.
