Auto to manual conversion
Hello,
OK, so if I was to come back from New Zealand and wanted to change from auto to manual then I would need.
a turbo M59 gearbox, manual subframe, pedal box, clutch, manual engine rubber mounts. cables, gearstick.
What about
ECU / Flywheel sensor / driveshafts
Are these different?

Subframe from auto got different wishbbone mountings. So 2 wishbones, not sure about driveshafts, CV joints. Can't think about anything more now.
no car, why drive a car if you can fly SAAB

As per Miloz, can confirm the Auto has different wishbone bushes to the manual as just done them this weekend (no photoguide sorry as mashed hand on slipped spanner so wasn't in mood!). You could do with getting 2 turbo's side by side and have a good look Mart, sure there'll be some other hidden gems there somewhere. Performance and fuel economy will be loads better though. Assume your looking at it from stronger gearbox poview?
Stu.

Before the 2 lit, I had the 1721 turbo engine on....can tell the difference is huge...with the standard turbo could go up to 220+ under circumstances ...it was a very good engine...but the manual box is longer at the 5th than the 4rth of the auto...can say that with the 5th gear on ,at 4000 rpms I was at 160 km /h, now I am at 150 something...also the turbo could easile go up to 5000 rpms while the 2 lit auto (at least mine) cant go more than 4600+-.. perharps its the blody exhaust.....
somehow I believe that the ratios on both type of gear boxes (auto and maual) should be a bit longer at the final gear...for instance, the fuel could be less if someone was travelling at 160 /h, and the rpms were no more than 3600-3700....both type of engines, specially the turbo, can cope easily with the amount of tourqe they offer....... correct me if i m wrong

Sorry to dig up an old thread here guys, but can anyone confirm if the flywheel needs swapping?
Dealer software reckons that on both auto and manual the have the same flywheel (it's an 89 auto, so early type flywheel if it does have it), but I've never come across this before in other cars, and it seems a bit strange to me, but then there are plenty of cars I havn't had apart . Anyone been then and know the definative answer?
Cheers, Chris

I can say having taken both engine types apart... You will need a flywheel, the auto has a drive plate that the torque converter bolts to, there isn't anywhere to fit a clutch.Chris_C wrote:Sorry to dig up an old thread here guys, but can anyone confirm if the flywheel needs swapping?
