Car won't move, poss the autobox
Help, pls any suggestions or solution.
My volvo 480 turbo, automatic, 1991 H- reg, suddenly developed this problem.
Won't move when gear is engaged in drive. only moves in reverse a bit and stops.
Have checked the ATF and there is more than enough, having put some more, yet it won't move.
Got it towed home.

I'd guess that the auto box has died.
What colour is the fluid? Did it make any noises etc either before or after this happened?
My guess would be that the oil pump has failed, or the valves that engage the gears. But it's impossible to say without striping the box down.

AT box
I wish you luck! Had something with the second !! AT in my 480. Car could not drive in reverse, wheels didnot even turn then. Had to jack it up to leave the parking place. Only gears that did do something were first and fourth. Odd driving but managed to get it home. Box was dead; only a "new" gearbox was nearly the value of the car. There is something with this type of ZF boxes with makes them very unreliable. Had a 12 year old over 300.000 kms 740 with ZF box, no problems at all (and only heard once or twice) of someone who had...
My 850 with AT and over 220.000 kms: no problems so far.
